Abahlali baseMjondolo leadership delivered some building materials yesterday in eNkanini to the families who were affected by floods this week. We are aware that we are not the government and we cannot provide for our people. However the recent rain left many people in our communities destitute. We cannot wait for the government officials who take forever to bring assistance to people. We also are aware that millions of disaster funds that were meant to assist the poor during this difficult time disappeared from the provincial purse. We are calling on other progressive movements to assist our comrades in eNkanini. An injury to one is an injury to all. Amandla!!!

S'bu Zikode's message on UnFreedom Day 2020.
Every year since 2006 Abahlali baseMjondolo have held an UnFreedom Day Rally to counter the Freedom Day events organised by the ruling party and the state. The first UnFreedom Day Rally was held in a church hall in Sydenham, in Durban. In recent years the event has been held on sports grounds. It now attracts more than 5 000 people. UnFreedom Day includes speeches, dance, poetry and music and is attended by representatives of other grassroots organisations and trade unions.
This year it was not possible to hold an UnFreedom Day rally due to the Covid-19 lockdown. All the resources that would have been used for the rally have been diverted into supporting the organisations' most vulnerable members through the crisis.
