Thought for the Day

If you are not a vegan but are outraged at what is going on in ‪#‎Yulin‬, then you are either: (1) clueless about how animals are exploited outside of China, including wherever you live; or (2) a racist, ethnocentric, or xenophobic person who thinks that the Chinese are morally inferior. There is no third choice.

Ricky Gervais on ‪#‎Yulin‬.

Damn right, Ricky. And while I am at it, I am going to demand that you stop participating in animal exploitation and go vegan once and for all. After all, it's completely hypocritical for you--for people in the West--to be acting as though the Chinese are different from the rest of everyone else. If you think that animals used for food in the West are not tortured in all sorts of ways, you are in error.

Remember that every animal adopted or fostered is one more life saved and that means everything to that one animal.

You save them and they save you. They teach you about love.

Please help them stay alive!

If you do not live in the New York City area, then go to whatever shelter is close to you and adopt/foster one or more animals of any species.

And remember: the animals we love are no different from the ones we eat. Go vegan.

On ‪#‎Yulin‬:

For those who claim that the Chinese are particularly evil and worse than people in the West because they cause suffering to make the meat taste better, I have bad news. We morally superior Westerners have a thing called the "veal industry" where animals are tortured so that their flesh will be pale.

We are all Chinese. So let's cut the racist, xenonopobic, ethnocentric nonsense.

I just read how Humane Society International is "on the ground" at ‪#‎Yulin‬. That's the same Humane Society International that licenses the "Humane Choice" label for "happy" meat.

That's the same group that is a branch of the Humane Society of the United States, which actively promotes animal exploitation and whose CEO, Wayne Pacelle, said just last week: "I get criticism from people in the animal protection community, who argue that there is no such thing as “humane meat,” ...that you simply cannot support the meat industry. But that’s not what I believe."

Yulin is horrible. But it's also horrible that people opportunistically exploit events like that to get donations. The truth is that the Chinese are no worse morally than the rest of us. This frenzy of hatred directed at the Chinese by people who actually promote animal exploitation is ‪#‎racist‬.

If you care about animals, you go vegan and you promote veganism., And you don't engage in racist, ethnocentric, and xenophobic attacks on others.

On the Yulin Dog Slaughter:

I could not agree more:

>>As this year's festival begins in the Chinese city, it's worth pointing out that the responses from many condemning the practice are extremely hypocritical. Though the pictures appal me too, it is quite ridiculous how much attention this shameful festival gets from Western media. Unless the UK becomes a completely vegetarian country and stops rearing animals for their flesh, most people don't have a leg to stand on when it... comes to complaining about a meat-eating festival.<<

Instead of a costly media campaign with celebrities, money should be given to empower Yulin's people.

Question

If there is anything about the Abolitionist Approach that you don't understand or agree with, what is it and why?

Great essay by Eva Lampert of Ecorazzi.com exposing the speciesist nonsense being peddled by The Humane League (the name says it all) that ending chick culling is great victory for animals.
