‘Autism is…’ photography exhibition brings together the unique experience and personal perspectives of seven young people with autism and what they think ‘Autism is…’ through photographing their everyday lives. These young people are Youth Patrons of Ambitious about Autism. ‘Autism is…’ captures the Youth Patrons' ideas of seeing the world through their eyes. What we hope you can see from their photographs is that no single person with autism shares the same experience – all are distinctive in their own way. The Youth Patrons feel strongly about raising awareness of autism. They wanted to find a way to express what they think the world needs to know about autism. So we enlisted the help of professional photographer, Kayte Brimacombe, to help the Youth Patrons translate their ideas into the exhibition you see today. Genevieve Fletcher, Youth Patron for Ambitious about Autism, said: “This photography exhibition is an example of the valuable and fun work of the Youth Patrons at Ambitious about Autism. W. Eugene Smith said: 'Photo is a small voice, at best, but sometimes - just sometimes - one photograph or a group of them can lure our senses into awareness.' Ambitious about Autism wishes for many ‘small voices’ to be heard to raise awareness of what ‘Autism is…’ in a thought provoking and inspirational way."
