Here's a quote from my all-time favorite singer/songwriter Jack Johnson. "Shortcuts can slow you down". Because as he continues, "in the end we are bound". I know we all want freedom. But there are no shortcuts. Not really. We must be willing to put in the REAL work just as those before us have. We must trust in the path. Humble hard work pays off in more ways than one.
Where are your weaknesses? What creates your insubstantialities? Do your perceived strengths distract you creating an imbalance? And what is stillness? Is it not moving?

It's our fear that makes us stiff, stubborn and creates our struggle. It's this same fear which makes us greedy, skeptical or hesitant. Yet there is no path to fluidity without acceptance of this and a sincere appreciation of honesty. Honesty isn't the way we want it to be or the way we may even perceive it. Truth remains the same whether we choose to accept it or not. So why not accept truth as quickly as possible, honestly submit to it as quickly as possible and flow with it as quickly as possible?

We don't train martial arts in order to get belts, receive awards or gain recognition. We train martial arts to gain clarity in a noisy world, to live deliberately and to become our true selves.
Being flexible and yielding is far from a natural way to act for so many of us. We are taught to tackle issues head on, power through problems and push on ahead. Yet, we all know that fire isn't put out by fire. Only water has the power to fight fire.
Yet why do we continue to insist upon fighting fire with fire?
