Gabbie Stroud's truth-telling memoir 'Teacher' made her a key spokeperson on the plight of teachers and the problems with Australia's education system. Now she's written a book of letters addressed to parents urging them to recognise what's involved in learning. You can read an extract on our AEU News site.

In her latest book, Dear Parents, GABBIE STROUD has written a series of funny, honest and heartfelt letters to the parents and caregivers of her students, which serve to highlight the intense pressure on teachers and fundamental problems within our education system.

Events like camps, sport and excursions often involve working beyond the standard hours within a work week.
This webinar focuses upon making sure this time is genuinely volunteered and members feel comfortable with what they're agreeing to do: https://bit.ly/2LOGmHE

Before 2013, Education Support staff could be "recalled" for work during the school holidays for up to 6 days without extra pay.
The AEU fought to have this rule changed in the 2013 Schools Agreement. Now when ES staff are required to work during their annual leave they are paid the "leave purchase allowance". The allowance is paid in addition to the normal salary, similar to a penalty rate.
Were you recalled early over the summer holidays? Check to see that you receive your leave purchase allowance. If you need help, you can contact the AEU Member Support Centre on 03 9417 2822.
