We've been having a lot of fun working on our City College of San Francisco Ocean Campus with the San Francisco Rising Alliance and the CCSF Solidarity Committee to help make all CA higher education free! You can stop by and sign the petition this Thursday between 11am-1pm. Come find us on Ram Plaza. #college4all
AFT 2121 stands in solidarity with the UK's UCU - University and College Union as they strike to stop the privatization of their pensions. This unilateral move to force faculty pension funds into the private stock market is an attack on educators, on students, labor, and on public institutions of higher learning.
AFT 2121 members are all smiles as they continue the important work of signing members up to the union in advance of the Janus decision. A shout out to all of those rank-and-file educators out there busting their tails in order to protect our profession and our schools!
Last year, AFT 2121 faculty turned out at the State Building in San Francisco to a hearing held by the Department of Managed Healthcare about healthcare prices. More than 1,350 people from over 60 different unions and community groups said with one voice: stop stealing our raises and set the stage for the successful prescription drug and single payer reform efforts the labor movement won last year. Let's keep the momentum going. Join us again today between 3-6pm at the Milton Marks State Auditorium.
"The reality is that a lot of our part-timers are freeway flyers. They may work in three districts. They may have trouble paying their rent," Balukjian said. "You can get unemployment, but this is where you get into situations where part-timers are living out of their car."
Part-time faculty are critical to the success of our students at our community college system. This heartbreaking article is a stinging reminder of how broken t...he system is. As a union, we are committed to ensuring that part-timers get the pay, respect, and job security they deserve in order to continue doing the important work of educating our students!
"AFT 2121 President Tim Killikelly said he had come to be “a strong voice against these outrageous, repressive activities” and to support City College students who may be undocumented.“
The peaceful rally drew representatives from various community groups and educational institutions, including the City College of San Francisco faculty union, AFT 2121, United Educators of San Francisco and members of the national Jewish social justice organization Bend the Arc Jewish Action.”
We were glad to join AFSCME 3299 and Jobs with Justice on the picket line today to honor Dr. Martin Luther King by asking administrators at UCSF to address issues of racism and inclusion. We hope UC will choose to value workers and patients over profit. AFT 2121 was with Jobs with Justice San Francisco and AFSCME 3299
