As part of Women’s History Month this afternoon, each San Francisco supervisor recognized a woman leader from their district. Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer’s speech honoring our very own Kathe Burick was *not* to be missed, both because of the wonderful things she said about our union’s resident tap dancer, musical director, yoga teacher and hell-raiser, and because (of course) Kathe followed it up by getting EVERYONE in chambers on their feet, dancing and singing.
We were so glad to knock on doors and make calls for Jane Kim today! Jane has been here for us. We made #FreeCityCollege real together and we know she will be a great leader for San Francisco. #FreeCity #SFMayor #TeamJaneKim
Faculty hear the stories all the time: "I am here because of Free City!" Glad to hear Jane Kim is meeting some of the amazing first-time City College of San Francisco students who might not have come to college this year if not for her dedication.
Walking down Market Street to Pause Wine Bar for a Meet and Greet, a group of CCSF students stopped me to thank me for my role in making City College FREE again...! They are enrolled in classes this semester + one student showed me their #CCSF backpack!
And thank you Peter Gallotta for hosting a fabulous happy hour!
We're fighting back against right-wing attacks on the working class and AFT 2121 faculty are sticking with our Union! AFT 2121 organizers, leaders, and Bargaining Team members were delighted by dozens of brand new AFT 2121 membership forms today. #organize #fight #janus #unions #KeepOurUnionsStrong #StickingWithMyUnion
"West Virginia shows that we can fight back and win...On Tuesday afternoon, a deal to give all public employees in the state of West Virginia a 5 percent pay raise was passed by the legislature and signed by the governor. A struggle that mobilized tens of thousands of workers, won widespread popular support, and was led by rank-and-file leaders, ended in a tangible victory."
"If you have enough working people who are pushed to the breaking point, and who are angry about a specific grievance, then it’s the duty of activists to let them know that they deserve better — and that their lives can get better if they take action on that issue."
Supervisor Jane Kim worked with us to champion the Prop W campaign and to make Free City College real. Now she's running for Mayor of San Francisco and she needs our help. AFT 2121 is joining with the Jane Kim for Mayor team to hit the streets. Please come out with us, talk to voters, and get out Jane's message of creating a city that works for all of us!
