I enjoyed a lovely walk along a country lane yesterday in warm, sunny weather to a small woodland in East Sussex. The Fly Agaric doesn't grow in alkaline soil, so I have to travel onto the High Weald. I have to be quick, as the mushroom will rot in days or get picked. I'd rather people refrained from picking wild mushrooms, as they are are vital part of woodland ecosystems and becoming scarce.

Wakehurst Place, near Ardingly in West Sussex is home to a particularly beautiful collection of Azaleas. I must return next May, as they were past their best this time around, but still spectacular. It's well worth paying £25 to become a Friend of Wakehurst to enjoy unlimited visits in the huge grounds for one year.
