I'm a huge believer in being engaged with your local government, so it was great to be among the panelists for tonight's Decatur City Council and mayoral debates. Thanks to NAACP Decatur Branch and its president Jeanelle Norman for co-hosting with the Herald & Review, and to my fellow panelists Mildred Bond and Liz Rawls. .
Thanks so much to Uber driver Garald Wilson for taking time out of the ride-sharing service's first day in Decatur to chat with me.

The zoo may not be part of my beat anymore, but I finagled my way into an animal story all the same. Who knew there were pet pharmaceutical trials taking place here in Decatur?
Hey guys! Meet our new editor/my new boss:
Meet our new editor, Chris Coates! Got a question for him? Ask it in the comments, and he'll answer in a future post.
Lovely story by Valerie Wells. The first time I covered an event at which Larry Klugman was speaking, he left me one of the nicest voicemails I ever got the next day. I always found him to be a valuable source for political stories, and a class act as well.
Nice work by my colleague Justin Conn. Some inspiring stories here!
