"But another thing which is very good for the throat is salt. And there’s a simple grandmother’s medicine for this to appease, that you take the, heat a little salt in butter and put that in your throat and in your sinus; a little warm so that it clears out and the salt absorbs the cold. It’s very nice and you’ll feel very much better.
And you can take an onion and roast it and foment it here. Cut it into pieces, cool it a bit and put on the eyes, so that the sinus would be cured. It should be done thrice or four times before sleeping. And there some other things also one can try." - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
But temperament is not your Self. Temperaments you must give up. Temperaments are horrid things. You give up your temperaments but keep to your character. A character is something so great, is something so sweet, and I see that character in a person, and I feel like – how is it they are not identifying with their character but with temperament? For supposing somebody has a temperament of saying something silly – is a temperament. So you just say, “What is this going on? Why a...m I saying things silly? I better get rid of it”. Somebody has a temperament of getting boiled up very fast – so you see to it that this temperament is not your character. But some people are so low level that even in their character you can find something going on and on and on, which is – their temperament has become one with their character. So try to separate. First of all you separate yourself from your temperament to your character, and in that character you enlighten your light. See how beautiful you will be, you’ll enjoy each other much more. - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
"So third promise should be that we will not sympathize. If you sympathize, ‘sym-pathize’ means ‘you share the pathos of others’. You have to just share the joy of another person. So we will not sympathize with others, with anyone, but we will share the joy of another person. The part that is joy of another person, we are going to share and look out for the joy. Try to see the good points. Some people just cannot see. That’s how you dominate each other. That’s a wrong thing." - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
The another thing which goes against Sahaja Yoga is, I have told you hundred times, I don’t know how many times, is to talk ill about other Sahaja Yogis. We are all part and parcel of one body, say we are all part and parcel of one hand. Now if this finger starts talking ill about this one, what is it going to do? Talking ill about each other is a very wrong thing. So today also decide that, “We will never talk ill about anybody else but we’ll look at ourselves – what is our ...position.” I’ve seen people passing remarks about other people who themselves are very badly caught up, and not worried about themselves. Now, by this, how are you going to improve? If you do not pay attention to yourself, and pay attention to others you cannot improve. So another promise should be that, “We will not talk ill about other Sahaja Yogis.” - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
"Now, the basic problem that lies with every country we must fight." - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
Laziness is the worst thing today. I know today is not a day to say all these things, but you all have to promise to Me that you are going to give up your laziness – Swaha. That’s what I have seen that, whenever I meet you people you are caught up. - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
Meditation is very important after Sahaja Yoga. You have slept and slept all your life. Sleeping is not so important. You have to today promise Me that, from tomorrow, you all are going to get up in the morning and meditate. I was suggesting that if you take your baths in the morning would be better, so that you won’t have your sleepy condition. Sloth is such a devious thing that you do not see it. It explains everything. If you say, “Oh I am sick” it will say, “Oh you are so... sick you should go to the hospital”. If you say, “I’m tired” it will say, “You are extremely tired”. Why should you be so tired? It is nothing but your Sloth is telling you that, “You are extremely tired, you better not do meditation now you are extremely tired. You better take some rest, is important”. Sloth is worse than super-ego and ego. - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
We should open our hearts to the person with whom we are angry. We should see, what he did, am I also doing? If you have done, then what is the need to be angry? If he has behaved like that then I won’t behave in the same way. In reality, you must love him. - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
* Shivananda Lahari by Shri Adi Shankaracharya *
I make prostration to Shiva and Parvati,
who form the embodiment of all arts,...
whose matted crests are adorned with the crescent moon,
who are to each other the mutual rewards obtained by their respective austerities,
who bestow on aspirants liberation and other fruits of devotional life,
who are the source of abounding good to the three worlds,
who reveal themselves in form of ever renewing novelty with the progress of meditation,
and whose experience generates supreme bliss in a mind contemplating on them.
I contemplate in my heart on the supreme Deity Shiva, the three-eyed and luminous Being,
who is to be known through the Vedas,
who shines in the heart of creatures,
who destroys the three bodies (gross, subtle and causal) of His worshippers,
who is the first of all beings,
who is majestic with His pile of matted locks,
who wears a garland of quivering serpents,
who sports a deer in hand,
who is merciful towards me,
who is the lord of all creatures,
who is the support of pure consciousness,
who is inseparable from the Divine Mother,
and who has disguised Himself in a worldly garb.
O Lord all-pervading!
Even after Thy being pleased with me,
either due to my meritorious works or due to Thy Grace,
why is it that I cannot get a sight of Thy holy lotus feet?
For, they are hidden from me by the golden crowns studded with precious gems
belonging to the crowd of celestials who prostrate at Thy holy feet in excitement.
O Thou source of bliss!
Poison is Thy food,
serpent Thy garland,
elephant hide Thy garment,
and a big ox Thy vehicle.
What, then, wouldst Thou give me?
What hast Thou got to give?
Therefore grant unto me only devotion to Thy lotus feet.
O Giver of all good!
For Thee, the creation of these worlds is a sport,
and all men are like animals kept for sport.
Therefore, whatever actions I have done,
they are solely meant for Thy pleasure,
Thus, O Lord of beings,
since all my deeds must have surely contributed to Thy entertainment,
it behoves Thee to give protection to me.
having applied the magic ointment of divine contemplation to the eyes.
Break open the dark barrier of ignorance,
making the Lord's sacred names the great ritual offering.
O auspicious one!
Whoever does so and obtains, in this very embodiment,
the treasure-trove of Thy lotus feet
resorted to by celestials
and bedecked with serpents as ornaments.
attains to the goal of human existence.
O Thou united with the Divine Mother!
ln order to sanctify the house of my body and render it most auspicious,
I, Thy devotee,
shall perform the purificatory rite,
uttering the sacred five-lettered Mantra
and dedicating the pot of my pacified mind,
which has joy as the water filling it,
devotion as the string wound round it,
Thy sacred feet as the tender leaves placed on it,
and knowledge as the coconut crowning it.
Now I get many letters saying, ‘Mataji, let the love flow from our hearts.’ Now how am I supposed to do that? First open your hearts. I will tell you how to open your hearts. Start with a small thing. Make a list of the people whom you love and whom you hate. Then write a loving letter to the ones whom you hate… (Yogis start laughing) very difficult thing! Extremely difficult! Write to them saying, ‘ I remember you a lot as you are great.’ It is ok even if they are not, nothing wrong in saying so! - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
The Kundalini shakti within us is in a dormant (sleeping) state. When She rises then, just as a spark in a stove gives light when in contact with the gas, the entire attention gets enlightened. Until this light spreads in our behaviour, in our lifestyle, in our society, in our country and in the entire world, there is no use of being a Sahaja Yogi. - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
Unless and until a person gets the Shiva Sthiti (state of Shiva), unless and until he gets his Self-Realization, he exists like a blind man. Any human belief is illusory like a shadow and man spends his entire life holding onto and following that belief. Until one attains the Atma Tattva, he cannot know the essence of the world. Not only that, he cannot know the essence of even his daily life and daily routine. - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
So today I hope we all pray that, “Oh Lord, give us strength and that source of attraction by which we give up all other attractions of all the pleasures, of joy of ego, of everything that we think of, but we should fall into the pure joy form of the Shiva Tattwa. Absolutely.” - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
Now for today’s Puja, we’ll have a very short Ganesh Atharva Sheersh. Just a – not washing my feet or anything much on it, but is a saying of Atharva Sheersha, and you can put…(Translation from Marathi: “That is during Shiv puja there is no need to wash my feet, as it’s already pure”) Shiva is all the time clean, pure, immaculate. So what are you going to wash the Immaculate? One may say that, “Mother, when You wash Your Feet, we get Your vibrations in the water”. But so detached that there’s no need to wash, at a state where you get completely washed, completely cleaned out. Then we’ll have a Devi Puja because Gauri, who is Virgin, is to be worshipped. So we’ll say the hundred-and-eight names of the Virgin, then we’ll do the Shiva Puja. - H.H. Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
