Clicky Clicky Music Blog premiers "Holy Ghost" from the forthcoming album Warm Winter.
We're pleased to present today a new tune from Boston indie/electronic stalwart André Obin. His eight-song long player Warm Winter -- quite notably, especially ...for those who remember Mr. Obin's time with 'gaze trio Endless Wave -- was mixed and co-produced by RIDE's Mark Gardener, who also played various instruments and provided backing vocals on the collection. For "Holy Ghost," the serene sixth track from Warm Winter that we premiere here, Mr. Gardener's aural touch is light but palpable, and manifests in melodica and e-bow guitar. These elements drift over Obin's plaintive vocal, relatively -- relatively -- urgent strumming, and spare percussion. The only significant dynamic change comes with a memorable downshift in the piece's waning moments, which does not detract in the least from the persistent, introspective solitude established in the song.
However, as we quipped to Obin over email last week, if "Holy Ghost" is haunted by anything it would seem to be the ghost of the admittedly non-dead Slowdive(band) fronter Neil Halstead, given the song's gentle guitar and vocals. Obin admits Mr. Halstead is an influences, but confides that the song is about " believing in something that was never true to begin with. And when you realize it wasn't real and everything is crumbling, there are those special people that will take care of your soul. Indeed they are few and far between." Warm Winter will be released Friday as a digital download via AndreObin.Bandcamp.com. Obin fêtes the LP during a weekly, Wednesday night residency at Cambridge, Mass.' The Plough and Stars, during which he will present acoustic versions of the songs on Warm Winter. In the meantime, we invite you to stream "Holy Ghost" via the Soundblorp embed below.

Indietronica is my first loop pack for London's Sample Magic. It was awesome to collaborate with New Zealand producer Nik Brinkman and Los Angeles producer John Kunkel on this pack. A truly world effort. Sample Magic says: "600MB+ of evocative, melodic electronics from a DIY pop aesthetic. Analogue processing and real-world ambiences combine with digital sound design and sequencing for a hook laden collection of indie-dance and floor-friendly beats. Rich evolving polyphonic synths, dub-arpeggiated basslines, glitched vocals and box cutter beats complete with key and tempo labeling for instant electronic pop bliss."
