Oxford has been an important place in the United Kingdom since it was founded by Anglo-Saxons in the 8th Century. Militarily, it’s been important to King Æthelread’s massacre of the Danes, the Norman Invasion, and the English Civil War. Since the 12th Century, it’s been known primarily as an academic center of the Western World thanks to Oxford University and with that has come a wealth of literature about one of England’s most famous cities. The moment British Invasion fans have been waiting for for 22 years appears to have finally arrived: The Kinks are finally back together. The band originally broke up in 1996, partly because, to take the bull by the horns, Britpop was coming into consciousuness and it appeared those bands were doing everything the Kinks were doing, including the feuding brothers act, and, at that point, the students were surpassing the masters.
