We were excited to try a new library but were sadly disappointed with the kids section of the library. First, the books were not categorized accordingly to call log on computer and we couldn’t find we were looking for.
Second, there was a small child eating a full meal and running around entire children’s section. This child was eating nuts which one of my children is allergic too, so unfortunately we had to leave because the library which is usually a safe place was not safe for us. When my child is exposed to nuts he has an anaphylactic reaction requiring epipen and hospitalization. We informed the librarian but had to leave because cross contamination of books and toys possibly having nuts on them.

I've been a patron at numerous libraries over the years...and this library is simply the best. Great selection. Employees who are helpful and knowledgeable...who actually ENJOY books. It's pretty obvi...ous when you interact with them or simply observe them doing what they so obviously love to do that this is a passion for them. Ankeny is very lucky to have such a treasure. I had a fantastic time performing with my Golden Retriever, Rumba, at the library on August 2 and August 18th for children and adults. It has been wonderful, throughout the years, to have this facili...ty to entertain, and educate, with my Golden Retrievers. See More

Very loud place. Toddlers section is not in an enclosed area making sounds reverberate throughout the building. More distractions from teens when released from the adjoining school. I suppose it has i...t's place, but one does not find any quiet time here. See More

I love to take my granddaughters to the Ankeny library. This week they are doing storytime using the Gerald and Piggy books, and have had full size Gerald and Piggy characters join in. Wonderful fun!

I submitted an online request to the library asking them to purchase a specific book. I was thrilled when I received an email that it was purchased and being held for me!

Ever considered reading a book by a new author?

Check out THE SPAGHETTI SET. It's a light fiction about two immigrant families that affirms the old adage: "Family is family, like it or not!" While p...roviding a taste of Italian-American culture, this novel entertains the reader with an amusing comedy of errors. For a sample of the characters' irreverent, ludicrous and intimate behavior, see the free preview at:

If you're interested, ask your library to order the book.

Regarding your announcement seeking old electronics, rather than ghetto blasters, perhaps boombox would be less offensive alternative.
Happy New Year from the Ankeny Library! Special thanks to the 200 participants, library volunteers, Ankeny Fire Department staff and Council member, Wade Steenhoek, for helping to make our Noon Year's Eve Party a success!
These little voices were not "Frozen" this afternoon - they "Let it go!" (Library movie sing a long) :)

Each week we feature an individual who visits the library. Children and Teens, Kindergarten - 12th grade, can enter their name into the bucket located at the library. Names are drawn weekly
