I must pick up my life and go on. Thank you all. Alice Ross-King
She has brought light, life and love to so many - and remained stoic and stalwart in the face of her own hardship. It's time for Alice Ross-King to say farewell... for now. Still pining the loss of her beloved Harry, as 1916 pushes on she struggles to keep up in wards overflowing with wounded - medical staff are so busy she is taught to give anaesthetics. "I show a frivolous face but oh God my heart is breaking, and tears are mine that I never thought I should shed". With a heavy heart she makes it to Christmas, describing it a success with turkey, ham, plum pudding, fruit, raisins, nuts, bon-bons and "best of all, each patient had a whole bottle of beer or stout". We will revisit her story. Until then, a salute to Alice and all the nurses of WW1 who gave so much. #AnzacLive
*While sad to say goodbye, there is another member of the Anzac Live crew who will need you in the next few days: Arthur James Adams. Against the odds, he has to go back into Pozieres...
Alice Ross-King is feeling heartbroken.
I cannot really believe the news yet and each day I long for a letter telling me he is only wounded. How am I to bear life? #AnzacLive
