Today we had the pleasure of working with the gifted 13-year-old oboist Princess Li who won the 2017 香港國際音樂節 Hong Kong International Music Festival. APU is a partner in the festival and Prof Russell was a judge in the last year's festival and helped choose Princess to perform with us. Come hear her play the Cimarosa Concerto with us on Sunday!
Our next concert is coming up! On February 11, we share a program with the talented Christian Youth Symphony of Irvine. The APU Symphony performs Strauss' virtuoso Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks. In addition, concerto competition winner Xavier Wilson performs the first movement of Barber's Cello Concerto and we welcome Princess Li, a gifted 13-year-old oboist from Beijing to perform with us. Princess was a winner in the 香港國際音樂節 Hong Kong International Music Festival in 2017. Our conductor Christopher Russell was a jury member for the final round of this competition and APU is a co-sponsor! Admission is free! See the poster for more details!
Today is the birthday of the great composer Witold Lutoslawski. We have played several of his works over the years including the Cello Concerto, Chain 3, and the Postludium No. 1. Here is a picture of our conductor Christopher Russell when he was a college undergrad with Mr. and Mrs. Lutoslawski in San Francisco!
