They're here! The swans of Magness Lake are making their Thanksgiving season appearance. Don't miss this beautiful & majestic sight! #heberfavorites
They’re back-the swans have been sighted! Eventually, more than 100 Trumpeter Swans that make Lake Magness their winter home will be making their way back to H...eber Springs. This is a unique phenomenon since the majestic waterfowl usually do not come to this region. It is speculated that a storm brought the swans to this area more than 18 years ago and luckily they return each winter.
We encourage everyone to view these magnificent creatures! The swans are just 15 minutes away from the Red Apple Inn. Again this year, we have complimentary bags of corn to feed the swans, so after you have enjoyed a hearty breakfast or lunch, stop by the front desk and pick up a bag. Whole corn is the ONLY recommended feed for the swans.
Directions to Lake Magness are on the bag of corn. Visitors can view the swans from a public road with parking space available. Chances of seeing numbers of the Trumpeter Swans are best in late afternoon. During the day they roam around in small groups and return to the lake before dark. A few hang around during midday as well. Enjoy their beauty and lyrical sounds until early February when they head back north.
