Enough with the abortion fear campaigns.
"A fear campaign driven by convenient exaggerations doesn’t help anyone; the public, policy makers and women who are pregnant in fraught circumstances."

A number of corrosive mistruths are being propagated about the reforms afoot to decriminalise abortion in Queensland.

How will our governments respond? Status quo? With more of the same? Options such as the Portugal Model of drug law reform must be considered.

More than 20 people are taken to hospital, many in a critical condition, after overdosing on drugs at a dance party in Melbourne.

Hello Kate from Aspendale, a Medically Supervised Injecting Centre is best placed where people are already injecting and dying.

The good news is North Richmond residents and traders support a facility being located there.

We need to think about addiction differently.

What causes addiction? Easy, right? Drugs cause addiction. But maybe it is not that simple. This video is adapted from Johann Hari's New York Times best-sell...

It is estimated that between one-quarter and one-third of Australian women will have an abortion in their lifetime. While there has been law reform in the ACT, Victoria and Tasmania the process is far from straightforward, nor is it stigma free.

If you thought the U.S. was bad, it's time to look in our own backyard.

Today I launched the Needle Nightmare campaign because a public health catastrophe is happening on Richmond streets.

• 60,000 used needles are plaguing residen...ts;
• there are 6 heroin related callouts every day;
• ambulance callout costs are $2.3million; and
• 34 people die every year on the steps of businesses and in the toilets of family restaurants.

You can see the impact this needle nightmare has on the area.

Businesses are closing and residents worry when they walk, looking out for the next needle.

There is a solution. It’s working in more than 90 cities across the world. 30 years of evidence shows that medically supervised injecting rooms get needles and users off the streets and gets them in touch with the services they need.

In Sydney, the transformation of Kings Cross has been remarkable.

They have had a centre for more than 10 years – and most people don’t even notice. What they do notice though is the change in the area. Kings Cross has been rejuvenated, ambulance callouts have decreased by 80% and no-one has died in their centre.

We have community support; we have more than 50 organisations backing this initiative; we have a space ready to go; and we have the bill on the table. Everything is ready.

We can end this needle nightmare now. We just need other politicians to stand up.

PSA to the anti-choice lobby: you can't refer to abortion as 'murder' or 'killing' and then protest you're not demonising people who have abortions. It doesn't work that way. Also, we're probably just going to delete your comments from now on. Thanks for stopping by!

The Australian Christian Lobby opposes the removal of the 'gay panic' law arguing doing so would say 'it's okay to grope women'.

Rev. Fr. Paul Kelly, a Catholic Priest, calls their stance "shameful" and with law experts backing the change he has started this petition.

Hi all. Important update. Just as we reach the cusp of finally scrapping 'gay panic' - the Australian Christian Lobby have started lobbying to KEEP this homophobic defence for murder. I can’t believe it - parliament are due to vote on scrapping the law in a matter of weeks, we can’t let this stand.…
