Drive of lifetime. Do yourself a favor. Drive it. Even over and back from Cooke City to Red Lodge and back. You won't regret it. You'll see something more breathtaking around each corner and over each... pass. Pull outs are well placed. Use them. Take pictures, just know they won't do it justice. Try explaining it to people, words will fail you. You won't have cell reception except for a few spots. Don't worry about it. Breathe it in, watch for mountain goats and even grizzly bears. You'll see them if you look. Don't drive it like a race course. Think old-school Sunday drive and take it down about ten miles an hour. Enjoy. You'll be back amongst civilization soon enough. Make sure you allow several hours to take this drive. You will want time to stop and appreciate the gorgeous views. At Rock Creek Vista point, you are likely to encounter friendly chipmunks. I loved t...raveling this road! See More

So the 1st time I took this drive was in the 80's on a motorcycle. Loved it then. Yesterday was the 50th or so time I went there. My husband and I fell in love there in 1999 or 2000. We have pickni...cked and froze, we have watched people extreme ski from the top, we have settled for Cook City on a winter day (not a good idea unless you enjoy snow mobiles and exhaust). It is my favorite place ever. The only drawback ever is city people who have to hurry along and idiots on crotch rockets who think it is a track. See More

My favorite road to ride! Simply Amazing! Only open during several months in the Summer and my suggestion would be to make sure to stop in the town of Red Lodge and take in this wonderful town too! Br...eathtaking views on this ride and be prepared for a temperature change! Ride from Red Lodge to Yellowstone! See More

I was recently up on the Beartooth Highway on Aug 31 & Sept 1. What a beautiful place! I'm kind of glad there is such a short season to access the area otherwise it could get overly commercialized and... spoiled by greater numbers of people.

Stayed at Island Lake Campground which is by far one of the most beautiful campgrounds I've ever seen.

The Beartooth Highway's scenery is spectacular! I have driven it many, many times, & it always delights with wildflowers, Rocky Mountain goats, & breathtaking views in every direction. Red Lodge, Mont...ana, is a wonderful gateway, & well worth a visit before driving toward Yellowstone or making a turn before Cooke City, MT, to take part of the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway toward Cody, WY, etc.

This is a fabulous choice to go into Yellowstone National Park via a stop in Cooke City, etc., before going through the Northeast Gate into the Lamar Valley, which is teeming with wildlife early every morning.

It's so much nicer of a drive since they redid the highway on the Montana side. When you drive it, give yourself extra time so you can pull off road and enjoy Mother Natures work of art and breathe i...n the fresh air. See More

It is a real wonder. Stop along the way for a hike. Look for mountain goats. Read about the visionaries who built this road and about the geology as you enjoy the beauty of a landscape formed over 7...0 million years. Take some of your best photos ever. See More

Beautiful ride... going west to east during the early part of the day is the way to travel it. We did east to west this afternoon... found it not as good .... takes about 1 1/2 hours with scenic stops.... Put it on your 'bucket list'. See More

I love it more every time I go. It truly takes me closer to my creator. No matter how far you go. Clear through the park or just to Vista Point. It's a beautiful peaceful drive.

My husband and I each ride our own bike. He rides an '06 HD Electra Glide Ultra. I ride a 2014 Heritage with an after-market faring. I grew up in the area and have driven this pass in a truck dozens o...f times. This was first time I have gone over the pass on my motorcycle. We rode up to Cooke City from the Chief Joseph Highway. Then went over the pass down into Red Lodge. It is a great ride, no doubt about it. We're going to ride it tomorrow from The Red Lodge side tomorrow, on our way through Yellowstone and the Tetons. Awesome route to take eapecially on a motorcycle although its really not for the faint of heart. You really need to pay attention to the road even though the views from on top are absolutely breathtaking!!!

This was two (we drove it twice yesterday) most beautiful drives we have ever been on. Charles Koralt labeled the Bear Tooth Americas most beautiful highway. Certainly lives up to it. I would not driv...e the bus on it myself. Not that it can't be done. See More

Just did Bear Tooth yesterday under blue skies for the second time. This time from Red Lodge up to Cooke City and then into Yellowstone. Absolutely Beautiful! A must do. Last time we went up from Red ...Lodge and then turned and took Chief Joseph HIGHWAY down to Cody. Both great routes but I would pick Bear Tooth - Chief Joseph loop as a little more stunning. Next time I will go the other way and go 'down' into Red lodge. Breathtaking Ride. See More
