- I'm a writer and a blogger, and every now and then I find myself in strange places doing strange things.
AS a fiction writer I write speculative thrillers for a new age. I hope to take readers to the depths of the human heart and the furthest reaches of the cosmos. In so doing, I try to make sense of the world at the collision of the individual and the collective, ethics and expediency, and technology and society.
When I'm not writing fiction, I blog about current affairs and writing. It's my way of sharing my thoughts on the world and about the craft with others, in the hope that it would provoke thought and action.
And maybe, just maybe, make some money along the way.
- "The finest emotion of which we are capable is the mystic emotion. Herein lies the germ of all art and all true science. Anyone to whom this feeling is alien, who is no longer capable of wonderment and lives in a state of fear is a dead man. To know that what is impenetrable for us really exists and manifests itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty, whose gross forms alone are intelligible to our poor faculties — this knowledge, this feeling … that is the core of the true religious sentiment. In this sense, and in this sense alone, I rank myself among profoundly religious men."
"In every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations."
- Great Law of the Iroquois Confederacy
"You see, it is not about killing, and it is not about dying. We are not all called to kill, and we are not all called to die, but we are all called to serve our civilisation in this dark hour. It is about preserving and protecting. It is about serving and sacrificing. It is about doing a dirty, desperate, thankless job, every day of your life, to the utmost of your ability, because you know that if no one did that job our civilisation would be doomed."
- LTC Dave Grossman
"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
- Gautama Buddha
"If you cannot find the truth right where you are, where else do you expect to find it?" - Dogen
"Convictions are more dangerous foes of truth than lies."
- Friedrich Nietzsche
"If you understand, things are just as they are; if you do not understand, things are just as they are."
- Zen proverb
"What hurts you, blesses you.
Darkness is your candle.
Your boundaries are your quest.
I can explain this, but it would break
the glass cover on your heart,
and there's no fixing that."
'I said before, the most beautiful and most profound religious emotion that we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. And this mysticality is the power of all true science. If there is any such concept as a God, it is a subtle spirit, not an image of a man that so many have fixed in their minds. In essence, my religion consists of a humble admiration for this illimitable superior spirit that reveals itself in the slight details that we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble minds.'
