Tell people what you think

While the booking process may take longer than your average click + pick site, it's 100% worth it. Louise goes to every length to make you comfortable and happy.... My Mum paid for my husband and I to stay at Shirakaba for our 8-year wedding anniversary and it was truly one of the best trips we've ever taken.

Shirakaba is located just off of Route 7 in the Berkshires, but it feels like a world away. Quiet, tranquil, and the perfect place to relax. As you drive up the driveway on the hill, you can feel yourself getting further away from your worries for a vacation you truly deserve.

We stayed for 3 nights and I absolutely recommend staying at least 2 nights for you to be able to enjoy the environment, but 3+ nights is even better! The room, Bamboo Suite (Take No Ma) is where we stayed and it has a wonderful view of the pond out front (if you open the windows, you can hear the waterfall).

And the food - oh the food! We did the Japanese breakfast each morning and it was spectacular. They also offer just about any Western-style breakfast option you can think of and I'm confident it's wonderful. We also did the special Japanese dinner event for our anniversary dinner. I've been to Japanese restaurants all over the USA and THIS is the best Japanese meal I've ever had. Worth every penny!

There's a lot of nifty museums and things to do around town, but we spent 90% of our time at the guest house, reading, walking the property, swimming in the indoor pool, and enjoying the fancy hot tub and sauna. This is the perfect place to while away time versus trying to pack in tons of activities.

With lots of board games, card games, movies, Netflix, Hulu, DirectTV, great conversation, and there offer to pick-up takeout for you, it's easy to spend a weekend (or more) relaxing, catching up, vegging out, or whatever you haven't been making time for lately.

This was truly the best anniversary my husband and I have ever spent together and we'll be coming to Shirakaba as often as possible.

This was one of the best weekend getaways I've had in a long time. Louise and Sadao were wonderful attentive hosts. Everything was clean and comfortable and a...uthentic. I felt this was extremely personalised which made it even more special. I definitely would recommend this to anyone who needs a relaxing weekend away =) See More

We have had the pleasure of staying at Shirakaba as a couple, and with the kids in tow. Fantastic and so relaxing on all accounts. Louise and Sadao are such ni...ce hosts who go out of their way to take care of you during your stay. Louise's sticky bits are addictive and so yummo! We love heading out to explore the local area, hiking, biking or in the winter skiing, and then come home to warm cookies, ice-cream waiting for us followed by a soak in the hot tub. We love the spirit of Japan that is found in Shirakaba and spending time in our Tatami room enjoying tea and some Japanese snacks. Shirakaba is pretty special and I would recommend it to anyone looking to explore the Berkshires and stay in a unique location with excellent amenities (did I mention the super comfy beds) and wonderful hosts. This little gem of a bed and breakfast that was a surprise 5 year anniversary getaway was amazing. A true sense of Japan! Louise and Sadao were gracious hosts, ...between Louise's cookies and sticky buns and Sadao's breakfasts and soups, you truly felt the comforts of home. We even got to learn how to make our own sushi! We will definitely be back for another stay! See More

This B&B is like no other. And if you've never tried one, then it will spoil you for all others! Hosts Sadao and Louise are the most gracious people ever, and b...efore you leave they will be your family. Their home is beautiful, clean, warm and they are always entertaining with cooking, baking and genuine hospitality. Louise never stops and even embroidered an anchor on my daughters souvenir cloth and a guitar for my son. She taught us Marjon. We played chess with dogs vs cats. Sadao makes delicious traditional Japanese breakfasts and regular American also. His Tamago, rolled egg(sort of a flat this omelet) tastes so good. The Japanese breakfast is such an experience not to be missed. Sitting in the Tatami room to eat your breakfast was so fun. For the pool/hot tub area, they give you robes. And another robe, Yukata, for lounging as well as slippers. We came for a January weekend and a lot of snow covered. We look forward to a warmer visit to enjoy the beautiful gardens. Thank you Louise! Thank you Sadao! This should be the #1 B&B in the Berkshires. See More
