Personally and from the public perspective, you have to tighten our belts now that the the depth the problem is that we have become addicted to to the Fed meddling the Federal Reserve meddling in our economy and so after the 2008 recession, we did not deal with the underlying problems that our nation has and because the dollar is the world's Reserve currency because the dollar is recognized. Around the world, we have an advantage in the United States of America so as long as the rest of the world is their their economies aren't as strong as ours, Then frankly, we're in good shape and we can spend we we can pay for all of these federal programs that are going out right now. I still think we need to tighten our belt and we need to be conscious of it. I don't think it's something to be worried about right now because thankfully we have a phenomenal economic engine that is still going This is evidence right here that you and I are you know talking our economy is still working, but yes we we do have to be conscious of it, but we shouldn't be driven by the fear of our. We're spending too much money. we are spending too much money, but this is for a time and we've got to restart the economy. It starts with small businesses and so, but we still have to reform our monetary policy as well as our fiscal policy. but if you reform your monetary policy, ultimately, that helps you with fiscal policy, it's a longer. but I'm if anybody wants to follow up, I'm happy to follow up on any of these questions and okay. Alright. Well here let's go to the next question. should we let the States that we're already in financial trouble before go bankrupt? Well, I'm sure that that's probably a question coming right here from New York 27 because we were already six billion dollars in debt and now we're up to 10 billion in debt and now our governor is actually looking to. Federal government to bail us out, but we were already six billion in debt so and he thoughts on that. well, yes look our nation has been going through this. We've had municipalities that have gone bankrupt. We have States that are close to it, Illinois New York and their States that have been much more responsible to who's legislatures have been building up their their reserves in North Carolina, for example, and and look all the States are different the federal government should. There as a safety net, but as being on the front lines I you know I I'm I I do not think that the federal government should be looked to bail out States or corporations that aren't in a position haven't planned. so you don't you can't you can't punish good behavior a disaster and that's what that's the that's the immediate knee-jerk reaction. unfortunately on the left and that it seems to me, they're not even willing to have the discussion right when my kids screws up when my child screws. And my children are perfect so am I when my child screws up. I I want my child to feel a little bit of pain right. I don't wanna just bail him out. I only have a voice and so I want him to feel a little bit of pain. so I think that mentality kind of plays in here. It's a no. I don't think that the federal government should bail New York out but the conversation. Be going on about what the challenges are and how to how to handle and manage it. Okay. so now we have this question. what are your thoughts on the unemployment rate? there's so many millions upon millions unemployed. I mean this is specific to New York. I know you're in DC. So what what are your thoughts? Well? look it's it. This is unprecedented how many people have filed for an employment and in the car at one of the problems that a friend of ours. Senator Tim Scott identified was that if if unemployment insurance is gonna pay above, what right minimum wage was, it's possible that there are people who when their jobs came back online, they would say, Oh hold on a second I I don't want. I don't wanna come back to my job cuz I can make more doing nothing and so we can't have perverse incentives in any part of our welfare state. that's just it's a it's a it to me. It's a common. Thing and and if you don't if you if you reward people for doing unproductive things, I am work that you're not gonna get you're not gonna get the production that this country needs to recover from this this disaster economic disaster so you know there was there's an acknowledgement that something had to be done but. Senator Scott was one who said hey, this provision is one that needs to be it needs to be a hundred percent. replacement income, not a hundred and 30 percent, or whatever for those who file for unemployment and he's proven to be right. There are business owners who got their P loans and they told their employees and their employees. We're not happy about being able to come back and work they and so, but it's not because they're bad people. it's because if you give a rational choice. Yeah, I won a hundred and 30 percent of what I was making for doing nothing and so but unemployment is you know the great thing about our system is that we can come back and we will come back. It's gonna be a unique. come back. I don't think it's gonna be a V-shaped recovery. It's not gonna be a quick bounce back but the market instead of government figuring out how the recovery is gonna happen, markets and individuals in small businesses we in in America, we trust them to identify where the. Is gonna come and so that that's the the the danger with the federal government trying to play have Mary Ann, That is that you can't be as efficient as the market is. Okay. So let's go to another question we we're actually getting a lot of them and so I'll what I'll do with you. Jimmy is cuz I know that we have planned for 30 minutes for this call. So whatever other questions I'll get answers from you later on and we can send them out by Email but okay, so here's another one. so what steps would you see for opening up our country and the economy while still staying safe? Yeah. again I I I lean towards to. Making choices for the most part, we rational in my neighborhood. people have taken extraordinary steps. so I'm going for walks like I'm sure all of you are in your snow boots but we're not wearing snow boots down here but people are physical distance. my mom is in in a retirement community and an apartment building and they're taking extraordinary steps. I haven't hugged my mom in a month and I've seen her but we have kept physical distance so I think the guidelines coming from the task force the Vice President, Pence is leading those guidelines that are gonna be helpful. I think you know there have been signs that governors and and the White House have been coordinating well. Obviously politics comes into play. it's gonna be interesting to see what happens in Georgia Florida is an interest. Example, I I also think that there have been a lot more people who have actually had Corona virus than we are aware of so it is it is more dangerous. The flu. This is not the flu this is more dangerous than the flu, but it is not it's not something that physical distancing and and taking appropriate steps following the guidance that I think any anybody who cares about themselves and their family. And others you know we're we're gonna practice much better. it's not hygiene but whatever you call it to to keep from getting other people, sick or sick ourselves. So again, this is why I think freedom is so much better is is because we can trust individuals. we we should trust people to make these decisions trust businesses. The market is gonna help show this will there be things that shouldn't happen? Yes. There will be but that's that's unfortunately that's a part of life. There's nobody or no institution that is perfect right well coming off on that question. there there's another one that's similar that says, So we're the the governors and I believe the federal government they're talking about opening up the country in regions at least here in New York State Governor's talking opening us up a regionally and are you do you agree as somebody who is very versed in the economy and economics? Do you agree that that's what should happen that we have got to. Our economy open again we have to and and remember our economy is open but we've got we're driving again. Let's say right, okay. So let's try and that's gonna take a while that is gonna take a while. so we should I think you know. I I I was taught not to live in fear the beginning of wisdom in Proverbs is the fear of God being fearful of a pandemic being fearful of other people. That's not a way to live. I'm not saying we should be careless. Absolutely not we need to listen to the wisdom of doctors. We need to work. I'm so grateful for our pharmaceutical industry. for coming up with cures, I have two friends who are very. Today, I think we're elderly, they were Middle aged like me they were close to death and hydrochloric Queen worked for them and and so there there are some solutions out there. I know the research hasn't you know been perfect. I guess but I I think we know that we can open in phases, New York City shouldn't open Western New York. I think it should Washington. See we probably need to be a little more careful any city probably needs to be a little bit more careful but I I think the way our government is built the way this Republic is built. It is really helpful where the governors are the ones who are making decisions and responsible to the people and and you know they need to be held accountable and they need to hear from their citizens. but absolutely, I think we need to reopen as quickly as is reasonable and regionally and in phases. I think people are gonna be the driver's death. we shouldn't we should not tell people you can't go out of your House. that's that's ridiculous right. Okay. Well, unfortunately, we're at 428, so we really only have two more minutes. what I do wanna tell everybody is if you have a question that you want answered from Jimmy just Email it to me at info at Best for Congress dot com. Info at Beth For Congress dot com. I will get the question to Jimmy because literally the. It's blowing up. there must be about 30 right now and I and we can honestly cannot get to all of them, but we will answer your question. I do wanna give you Jimmy a first we wanna thank you cuz I know that you know you have another another meeting at 430. I wanna thank you for taking the time to do this, but I do wanna give you the closing remarks so they hear me talk all the time so you you go ahead and give us some close Your marks here in Western New York. Well, Beth. It's been great. getting to know you I I really appreciate anybody who put. Their hat in the ring for Public service and I wanna remind I you know my, I grew up with a dad who is in Congress from 1970 - one the year I was born until 1989. The name was Secretary of Hu until 1993 My whole childhood was my father was in public service and I wanna remind people that public service is a high calling and yes we need to hold our public servants accountable our elected officials accountable, but we also need to respect them whether or not we agree With them but. Need to sharpen our arguments We need to understand history and we need to have a civility and a willingness to engage because you don't win people to your viewpoint by hammering them over the head you win people to your viewpoint by having a healthy discussion and having your facts straight. so anybody if I said anything wrong, I want people to challenge me and but if you come at me disrespectfully, I'm I'm probably I'm not gonna listen and I just think that public. In such a great thing, it's a great part of our our nation having regular people who can go represent us in either our state capital or the nation's capital. I'm grateful that you're willing to throw your hat in grateful to your family and I I wanna also express gratitude to everybody in Western New York for their kindness to the Kemp family over the years and and certainly our hearts and prayers are with anybody who's on the front lines of this current disaster. So thanks. Have that okay? well? thank you so much Jimmy and again I'm so sorry we didn't get your questions but they will be answered. Jimmy is very responsive, so I know he'll answer your questions. He loves Western New York, which is why he had agreed to do this for us. So thank you so much good luck on your 430 meeting and we'll talk soon. Alright. Thanks Beth Okay. Thank you.
