It's not everyday that a big blue marlin raises its head behind one's boat, but when it does, it usually means business!

Gotta love Sydney. Breakfast at home, go and catch 2 blue marlin with your good mates. Home for dinner. Team Big Blue went to sea yesterday and ended up tagging and releasing two good size blues. It's late in the season but with 22.8 degree water and good presence of bait out there, there seems to be some solid fish around. Both fish tagged were 2.5m+ (short length) and gave us a good run for our money on 24kg gear. We did not find the yellowfin tuna but they seem to be around as well. My wife bought lemons to show some optimism but based her actual experience with our tuna fishing results in the past, she had a back-up meal for dinner in the oven

Port was alive this year! Hereby a few more pictures from our Port Stephens excursion with our mates from Cape Town last month. Good memories.
Good weekend on the water with mates visiting from Cape Town. 8:7:6 on marlin. We tagged 4 striped marlin and 2 blue marlin. First marlin for each of the three visitors on the same day! Well done guys!

2018 NSWGFA Interclub State Championships. Conditions were tough at times, the bite was hot and we had an enormous amount of fun. Well done to Broken Bay GFC Team 1 who landed in second place in the Tag and Release category. 429,604 points in 3 days from 3 boats. The stuff that fishermen's dreams are made of .

More Shootout action. Thankful for a memorable weekend on the water.
Day 2 of the 2018 Billfish Shootout in Port Stephens ended up in 5:4:4 with 3 marlin bites and another 2 good sized mahi-mahi. We tagged and released 2 blues.
Fun weekend for team Big Blue. 15:14:8 including 10 blue marlin bites and 1 black marlin bite makes a great weekend’s fishing on most people’s calendar. Next stop - 2018 NSWGFA Interclub State Championships.
Day 1 of the 2018 Billfish Shoot in Port Stephens was loaded with action. Team Big Blue went 10:10:4. We landed and released two Mahi-Mahi’s (20kg+ est), tagged two blue marlin and lost the battle against another 5 blue marlin and 1 black marlin. Looking for a big fish, we had large lures and hooks in the water while most of the fish were on the smaller side (80-120 kg), therefore the proper hookup ratio was not that great. We nevertheless had lots of fun and look forward to Day 2 of the tournament.
