After the warm reception of our premiere issue, we're hard at work on issue #2, due in February 2018. Our rock-star cover artist, Lance Jackson, is starting on illustration concepts. We'll be featuring a broad array of international talents: Soramimi Hanarejima, Addy Evenson, James Rowland (our first kiwi contribution), Jay Caselberg, Thomas Kearnes, Jennifer Beningfield, Tom Weller, Chris Kuriata, Michelle Willms, and Matthew Lyons.

Around Christmas, we'll start sneak peaking some material to keep you warm and toasty if you're in winter climes while the rest of us enjoy our holiday breaks at the beach.

We're pleased to announce the release of Black Dandy's premiere issue. Featuring 10 tales of magic realism, surrealism, and the otherwise strange, we're out to set a new standard in odd literary fiction.

As we launch this ship, please join us by purchasing your very own print or Kindle edition. The gorgeous 8" x 10" print edition with a full-colour wraparound cover and premium paper makes a great stocking stuffer for friends and family who have huge stockings.

Enjoy and pleas...e let us know what you think.

We are closing in on the inaugural release of Black Dandy, due out in the first couple of weeks of October.

In the meantime, we thought you might like to know that Black Dandy's editor, Andrew Lynch, has a new short story in the just-released 14th issue of the seminal literary journal Bourbon Penn. Bourbon Penn, created and edited by Erik Secker, lives in roughly the same aesthetic space as Black Dandy. You might like to see what Erik and his crew are up to.

Stay tuned for more updates in the coming few weeks related to our big debut!

For our inaugural issue, we're doing a wraparound cover. Here are basic sketch concepts Black Dandy's resident artist, Lance Jackson, created. We're not showing the concept that was selected for further refinement, but thought you might be intrigued by Lance's fascinating imagination. All images copyright Black Dandy Publishing Ltd.

Utterly chuffed to report that we've selected 10 tales for the inaugural edition of Black Dandy and are closed to new stories for that issue. We have shortlisted more than a dozen other stories and will now go through the process of selecting stories for issues #2 and #3. Stay tuned as we gear up for our big September debut.

We are furiously making our way through a huge number of submissions and are pleased to announce that we've accepted stories from Charles Wilkinson, Andréa Onstad, and George Salis, with a dozen others on the shortlist. Esteemed artist Lance Jackson is at work on concepts for the inaugural issue's wraparound cover. Stay tuned as things develop.

It's a testament to the enthusiasm for quality writing out there that we have received nearly 100 submissions after our first week calling for them. We are rapidly moving through each of those stories and look forward to making some decisions in the next 60 days.

Black Dandy is a new quarterly literary digest steeped in the long tradition of slow-simmering strange fiction. Based in New Zealand, with an international reach, Black Dandy welcomes readers and writers to worlds that seem right around the corner.

For our double-sized inaugural issue, releasing in late 2017/early 2018, we want stories that wallow in vivid characterization. We want to see characters in odd circumstances under unusual pressures. Serious tales for a sophisticat...ed audience. We are fans of magic realism, the gothic, and surrealism.
