Black Hills Energy linemen are headed to Florida

Members from our Business Development, Engineering, Regulatory, Gas Supply, Load Control, Legal, Supply Chain, Environmental, Safety and Facilities departments recently joined forces with our Iowa leaders and like-minded transportation and equipment partners to build a temporary Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility in Estherville, Iowa.

The mobile pipeline, which will supplement our natural gas system during peak demand times, was successfully installed late last year.

“The unique challenges we faced with our system limitations in Estherville required a progressive approach to meeting our community and customer expectations,” said Wes Ashton, director of operations for Iowa.“

Our safety committee in Cheyenne, Wyoming, hosts a morning meeting each month with important safety lessons.

Last month, the Electric Operations team of 15 linemen, 1 groundman, 2 fleet mechanics, 2 metermen, and 2 substation electricians, took center stage and provided their fellow employees with some very powerful lessons in electrical safety.

“The idea behind the fair was get people together and to let our experts in the field share their knowledge with coworkers,” said Electric Operations Manager, Marc Eyre. “The hope is that everyone comes away with knowledge that they can use at work and at home to promote safety here and in our community.”

I️ would give you guys 0 stars if I️ could. I️ have been paying for the service guard for quite some time now. The few times I️ needed work done I️ needed to hire a repair guy after the fact because y...our employees didn’t know how to fix my heater. So not only have I️ been paying for a service that is a complete joke I️ now have a bill somewhere else because your company couldn’t do the job right! So what did my money go to then nothing absolutely nothing. What your repair man said was wrong with my heater was something completely different than what the other guy found and fixed. I️ hired him after the 4 th time in 2 weeks your guys had to come out. (The first time they came it broke again after only working 20 minutes) I️ have a baby in the house so I️ couldn’t wait any longer. So a week and a 1/2 after your repair man was supposed to order a part (still has not arrived) I️ finally called to complain! I️ still have gotten beat around the bush excuses as to why the ball was dropped on my repair. I️ can only imaging the amount of cash I’m going to have to shell out to the electric company for all the space heaters I️ had to purchase to keep my family warm. Thanks for nothing. I️ look forward to canceling my service guard and would love my money back for the service guard I️ have paid for that obliviously didn’t benefit me! Your company not only ripped me off financially (having me pay for something ineffective) but in the end has cost me hundreds!! See More

It has been 16+ hours since the entire town of Mountain View has been out of gas. I have personally called 4 times throughout the evening/night and was assured every time that a technician would be by... and that I just needed to be home. We have a 5 month old and a 4 year old in a house with no alternative heat source (keep in mind that it’s 12 degree outside currently). I just called again to be informed that the crew has gone home. We have been up all night to ensure that we didn’t miss your technician. No red tag on our door, and the house is currently 53 degrees. I am appalled...

Update: it just now got turned back on. We were skipped accidentally. Thankful for our heat to be back on.

I am very infuriated with your company i would give it 0 stars if i could right now!!! These people instead of doing their jobs correctly are now trying to bill me close to $800 for more than a years... worth of gas usage because since June 2016 apparently the gas meter was not working correctly and they just now caught it October 2017!!!! What kind of good customer service is that?? are we as consumers now supposed to be in charge of making sure that the meter is working?? i hope someone there is going to try and provide good customer service by negotiating this with me or i will take this to small claims court and i will win because how am i suppose to trust their word that this amount is correct when the meter was never working which is why we are in this position to begin with how do i know that this is not false information???

Yajaira very upset customer

If 0 was a choice I would give 0 stars..
I am being told a tech can not come fix my heating system today. I am on day 5 with out heat, this is unacceptable. I was told to call when the part arrived at... my home and a tech would come out and get it fixed. My house is freezing, I have two kids age 3 and age 4, one is sick with a respiratory infection. I have to run multiple space heaters and on top of that I am going to have to pay a an outrageous electric bill. I am being told there is higher priorities than me? This is unacceptable, I am being told I have a temporary hook up so I will be fine. The temporary hook up is not able to keep up with the -9 temp. I have to over ride my boiler aquastat every 30 minutes and sit at my boiler for ten minutes just to bring the temp up for another 30 minutes. I can't leave my home, I havnt had sleep in days because I have to be at my boiler every 30 minutes! I was told sorry it is inconvenient by the rep on the phone, I have read reviews on this company and it sounds like this is the company's reputation. I am paying Black Hills Energy bill/repair and now I will be paying an outrageous electric bill and I am still sitting here with out heat until when? This is unacceptable, i will be making calls today this is not right! See More

I think your customer service is the worst I have ever seen in my entire life. Teresa has ignored my husband after being promised to have our gas turned on to our house. Teresa needs to learn what cus...tomer service is and do it. Good customer service is the lifeblood of any business. You can offer promotions and slash prices to bring in as many new customers as you want, but unless you can get some of those customers to come back, your business won't be profitable for long. Good customer service is all about bringing customers back. See More

My husband is off work for undetermined amount of time do to an injury. They refuse to work with us and put any extra money that is paid from others and energy assistance toward our bill. It's put in ...a 'bucket' and the money just sits there. They have no settle up month or anything like Source Gas did. Or they can take us off budget billing and that money get used up super fast and still can't pay our bill. They even admitted that Source Gad never did anything like this!! See More

You pulled my meter today with no warning and no call. I do not have an outstanding balance and no I don't want you don't want you to contact me to help me because it's already being investigated. I h...ave an 8 week old puppy and an old dog with cancer that are freezing. You say I've been getting free gas, well it's not my fault you haven't sent a bill, either way don't go pull a meter with no notice or permission to be on my property. You all are clueless. See More

It’s so frustrating when you pay for a service and people can’t be on time. I understand that there are emergencies but that should be communicated to paying customers. Nothing will be done to compen...sate me for just sitting at home waiting when in today’s busy world I could be out doing a million other things. In the mean time I will just continue to sit here and wait like I have been all morning for a service that was suppose to be between 8-12. See More

My partner and I live in Dubuque, Iowa. We moved into a new apartment at the end of June. We had scheduled a transfer of services at the end of our lease to start at the new place when the lease start...ed.

Just last month, in September, we received a call from our new land lord wondering why our meter was not connected. We called Black Hills confused because we had made payments for the months July, August, and September. We had been paying for gas at the old apartment. When asked why the addresses had not been transfered, we were told "there was a discrepancy with which meter was to be turned off at the old address. So the cancelation/transfer was voided."

Rather than the residents, us, being notified of an issue, the Black Hills worker decided to just void the entire transaction. Thank goodness our old land lords reimbursed our payments for the new tenants.

When this was discovered in Sept, we attempted to connect the heat at our new apartment again. It is now October and we still don't have heat. I called on the 13th and was told the earliest we could have services would be the 24th.. after speaking with a helpful woman named Heather, she made an appointment for the 17th.

Given my experience thus far, I'm not holding my breath for them to show up tomorrow. I won't be surprised if no one shows up or we need to "reschedule." I'm prepared to use electric space heaters this fall and winter.

Updated to three stars 10/17/17:
The gas was connected as scheduled today. Though this was a four month process, I am grateful that BH followed through and we weren't delayed any longer.
