This is a great non-profit ministry supported by some contributions from state, county, local community but can always use individual support through whatever means of sharing gifts and talents. Admin...istered by a fantastic christian based staff.
I can't wait until the day I am able to return to assist in miscellaneous needs during semi-annual dental ministry team visits after my chemotherapy treatment is over and cleared for travel by oncologist. Lifting this ministry, staff and their families up in my daily prayers!

Christmas Box Packing Party 2017!

Bland County Schools ARE open on a 2-hr delay, HOWEVER our parking lot isn’t scraped and several of our volunteers will not be able to come in today. We will operate on a very limited basis, including no produce to be set up outside. If you absolutely need food this week, it will be available, but we urge you to be extremely careful and consider if you can wait until next week to pick up your March food box.

Friendly reminder: If Bland County Schools are closed due to weather, so are we. Make sure you check closures before heading over tomorrow!

We've had some questions come up about our Clothes Closet, so we thought we would very briefly try to explain. We do NOT throw any clothing/household items in the garbage UNLESS they are soiled, torn, or not usable. We have a relationship with a company that will take items that have been on our shelves for over two months (which means the items do not fit the needs of our regular shoppers) and send them to other distribution points. You may just now be able to part with yo...ur MC Hammer pants, but that doesn't mean folks in Bland County will wear them. We appreciate ALL of your donations, nothing goes to waste unless it is just to the point that it cannot be worn or used. All items in our Clothes Closet are free and are being made available to help others in our region offset the financial cost of clothing their families. We welcome any questions you may have on our procedures and will gladly clear up any confusion.

“God knew your need and knew those items were waiting for you.” Some days a box of toothpaste will leave you with no words. All we can say is we’re so incredibly thankful for the churches, businesses, and donors who work alongside us to fulfill our mission: to meet the physical and spiritual needs of those in our community.

Two peas in a pod! A lot of you have been praying for the health of these two, so here’s a little update: The Boss is back (on a part-time schedule) from knee replacement and doing pretty well. We enjoyed a visit with Mr. Lee this weekend, even though we caught him right in the middle of an escape attempt! He’s being well cared for by all the sweet folks at the Bastian nursing home, but he sure does miss his independence! If you’d like to send Lee a card:

You guys were our heroes with the ziploc bags, but we’ve got a new project for you! Our dental clinic is down to its last 12 tubes of toothpaste, and they’re in desperate need of a restock. They see around 80 patients per week, and give each patient the standard hygiene kit of ADA accepted toothpaste, brush, and floss. If you have any questions as to what is ADA accepted, look for the seal like you see below.

We were glad to have the youth of First Baptist Church Bluefield, WV visit to deliver donations from their Souper Bowl Sunday event! (Also, did I blink or have these kids all suddenly grown by a foot??)

We were so pleased to have Dr. Bascom and her students from Bluefield College with us last week! If you're interested in bringing your children, youth group, or class to volunteer for a day, we'd love to have you!

H&R Block is very kindly donating $20 to BMC for every new client that presents our referral code. If you're looking for someone new to help you with filing, just share this flyer with them... And hey, no matter who you file with... If you get a big ol' return this year, feel free to use part of it by buying us some Chick-fil-A.😉

You guys!! Thanks a ton!!

A borderline desperate plea for help: we are out of gallon size zip-lock bags for our food pantry. We often get bulk food donations that our volunteers then break down into family size portions for food boxes. Would you consider collecting some for us?

If there was a formal job description for our Director, we would definitely need that extra line that states “and other duties as necessary.” Our boss lady works HARD, and all the walking, running, fetching, carrying, and unloading has taken a real toll on her knees. We would certainly appreciate your prayers for her as she undergoes knee replacement surgery tomorrow... but also your patience with the rest of the staff and volunteers as we try not to get into too much trouble while she’s at home recovering. We’re all looking forward to the new and improved Dee Dee to return, just in time for spring mission teams!

December and January updates: after a very busy Christmas distribution, our food pantry and clothes closet are officially closed for the year. If you are in need of anything, please call before showing up as our office hours are going to be very sporadic. We also have some health issues among our staff and volunteers that have led us to the decision to only open the clothes closet on Thursdays in January. That means food on Tuesday, clothes on Thursdays, 10-1 in January. We won’t be able to have both open at one time. Again, if Bland schools are closed due to weather, we will be as well.

Even though Bland County schools are closed the Center WILL be OPEN. Stay safe and please be patient and dress warmly. You can drop the kids off at the mission house for fun activities while you pick up your boxes and toys.

Bland parents, don’t forget to bring your kiddos with you while picking up your box tomorrow! Drop them off at our white mission house (across from dollar store) so they can craft with our library friends while you load your car! In fact, any children are welcome! 9-11am and 1-3pm or until they run out of crafts!
