❤️ NEVER FORGOTTEN ❤️
As you all know, the BNB TRIBUTE WALL painted by The ASHOP CREW was recently painted over. We originally painted this on our own nickel and dime to show support... in 2011. We first found out about the walls recent state a few weeks ago when one of our crew members spotted this and sent me a cellphone picture assuming that the city's “graffiti removal department” had sanctioned this. After numerous phone calls and emails to the city and various graffiti removal companies, I found my answer when talking to the business owners who let me paint their wall in the first place . The original owner of the hotel who has encouraged me over the last 15 years by letting me paint that wall freely whenever i wanted, Has sadly passed away recently. The New administration who was not aware of the significance of this mural, Needed to repair the bottom concrete wall that was falling apart. After theses repairs, The Mural was greatly damaged and a maintenance person was told to repaint over the affected area.
THIS WAS NOT an act of disrespect or lack of appreciation for the art piece.
This is unfortunately what happens to murals in the long run.
I am happy to say that after talking to the new owners, we will be permitted to repaint the wall if we want to. The fact is, That this building is way over a hundred years old and the brick is in terrible condition. No matter what we paint on it in the future, It will always fall apart within a few years.
For this reason only, We are not sure if repainting the tribute wall for BNB or anyone else on that wall is the best idea at this point.
I can say with certainty, That the entire crew and myself are down to repaint a tribute wall for BNB next summer or when the timing is right . We just don't have a good wall for it yet. I will be talking to city officials and Quartier des Spectacles over the winter to see if maybe someone would be willing to finance the repairs of the wall so we can do our work properly.
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported our crew and the works that we do from the beginning. We are honored to see and hear all the positive comments in regards to that mural. we never anticipated such a huge response to something so natural to us. We still believe that REAL graffiti artists should be at the service of their community.
