My friend Walter Robert Light died yesterday. I spoke with him only a few days ago in the hospice, he was as positive as always but resigned peacefully to his fate.
He was my friend for more than 50 years and we got up to more mischief than could be recorded; good stuff too. He will be very sadly missed. Bosham will not be the same without him and many lives not quite so enriched. He was kind, funny, shrewd, always a character. Goodbye old friend; you lived life as it should... be, I wish it could have been longer.
So... as he would expect I toasted his life with a glass of fizz at 6am today standing naked in the water where he sailed often (that's probably too much info, lol). Actually one of my lasting memories will be of teaching him how to sail his own boat - whilst he was more interested in catching 70+ mackerel. We ate well often and, thanks to his generosity so did many others.
I taught him how to sail, he taught me how to catch fish. It was always a privilege and always fun. xxxxx
So… I’ve got a new housekeeper, her name is Ed; she is from Brazil and is seeking more work in the W Sussex area. She has a lovely hubby who runs a commercial cleaning company, so if you’re looking for either I can thoroughly recommend these two. Amazing job and very reasonable rates. Call her or him on 07990 349228. Tx
Fab time at the Berkeley Arms last night (Wed). Beautifully cooked quality steak and a glass of wine for just £10. Beautiful barmaid, beautiful Chef (I know I’m trouble but am still allowed to appreciate beauty when I see it. No harm done) and a good mate. I think they are doing it again next week, but perhaps check. 01243 573167
THE LOCAL ART TRAIL - NOW ON
What a fabulous day this has been. If you haven’t been yet, now is your chance over the next two days (May 4-5, also May 10-11 ) to see some amazing artwork and meet some extraordinarily talented people. I’ve only done the Bosham circuit so far. It is such a delight to see how much artistic talent we have in this village. It has been beautiful, even awe inspiring. Truly. Enjoy it, we are so lucky to share this Tony x.
SO SPRING HAS FINALLY SPRUNG – and we are feeling optimistic ; -)
DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING GOING DOWN? So post it… yes? It’s going to be a fun year in Bosham this year. Lot’s of stuff going on, good weather (Lord pleeease). Watch out for all the events: gardens open day, art trail, live bands at the Berks, BBQs and pool parties (some links below) plus all the clubs in full swing. So don’t be square – be there (did I really just write that, yikes). Anyways – here’s the main point: if you have something going on me-thinks you should post it here. T xxx
BOSHAM JAZZ WORKSHOP - EVERY SUNDAY
We have a jazz workshop running every Sunday evening in smugglers lane, and a series of bands, all based in Bosham, called jazz Smugglers. We are featured in the Gardens day coming up soon (linked on this page).
