The last few weeks since our Kickstarter have been a whirlwind of details and logistics— all of the boring stuff that while not exciting, bring everything together. Last week I got the opportunity to visit the printing press that will be printing the #Goodnewspaper and it was an absolute highlight for me. Originally we were planning to print the Goodnewspaper with a wonderful printer we've been fans of for quite some time. About halfway through the Kickstarter campaign I reached out to them and let them know how successful our campaign had been already. They informed me that we'd actually scaled beyond their capacity (already!) and that they wouldn't be able to handle the size of our production— let alone what it might grow to months down the road. While it's never fun to make last minute changes, I began the important process of securing a new printer for our paper. After searching all over, I was finally referred by another publication toward a wonderful printer in the middle of nowhere in Tennessee. Someone on their team came out to my studio in Nashville to tell me more about what they do, how they do it, and why they do it and I was sold. The management has a great deal of passion for sustainability, the sample papers I saw were high quality, and the team was enthusiastic about our mission and wanted to work together. And on top of that, they're incredibly passionate about what they do and bring a level of excellence and craftsman-like quality to the process of creating newspapers. So last week I drove out to the middle of nowhere in Tennessee with a film crew and met the team and learned about the entire process of creating a paper. It was absolutely fascinating and beautiful. Oh, and there's ink everywhere. I know I should have expected that... but I definitely came back covered in more ink than I could have imagined. hahah I left the printer feeling proud to be working with them and can't wait for them to bring the Goodnewspaper to life. I can't wait for this to show up in people's mailboxes!

What is it about snow that makes us all feel like kids again? Sammi and I woke up and marveled at how much snow had fallen overnight. A few hours later we bundled up in all the warm clothes we own and walked out out front door toward the park. Everywhere we walked we saw our neighbors and friends braving the cold to explore our snowy community. We broke a plastic storage box trying to ride it down the hill, giggled as we climbed back up, tried a few more times, got some snow down our boots, and walked to the local BBQ restaurant to grab a sandwich. Couldn't be happier.

I spent an entire day in New York and didn't shoot a single photo. Which means I had the best time making new friends and bumping into old friends. Good thing I got lost on the subway tonight, otherwise I would've ended up without any videos either.

Stephen Kenn’s work is thoughtful, independent and full of narrative trails. We especially love the Encounter Collection.

“Encounter tells the story of a bag that has been passed along from one generation to the next. A timeless object made with materials that are worthy of repair.” — Stephen Kenn Studio

Did y’all know that kids and adults face hunger in every community across the country? As somebody who’s been fortunate enough to never have to worry about where my next meal would come from, I’ve been trying to learn more about food insecurity for the sake of being able to empathize and connect with people who struggle with this issue.

What many people don’t realize is that a lot of people who are food insecure live in rural areas— not urban areas. I grew up in a rural part ...of the country and always assumed none of my classmates had problems getting meals. It wasn’t until more recently that I learned that a surprising percent of my classmates relied on help receive meals.

That’s why I was so excited to be able to do a photoshoot/storytelling campaign with Feeding America, running around rural Tennessee with our incredible local food bank, Second Harvest - Middle Tennessee.

I especially loved learning that in 2011, less than 1% of all food given out in the greater Nashville area by Second Harvest was fresh but now more than 1/3 is fresh!

I have two inspiring stories to share about people who make it possible for their neighbors to eat. They’ll be coming up tomorrow so keep an eye out for them.

How cool is this? These graduates are using the hashtag #Immigrad to celebrate their hard work and heritage!

“Graduation is an important day for everyone, but for many children of immigrants, it is the very reason they are in this country. We want to celebrate immigrant graduates and their families and recognize them for achieving this milestone.” —Define American

I moved to a new desk at my workspace and I've really enjoyed decorating with things that inspire me.

This idea of Celebrating and Becoming the good in the world has been a central idea in everything my team and I have been working on over the last year. The phrase continues to take on new meaning to me as time goes on and I love that. Is there a phrase or idea you have been holding onto this year that has inspired you? Would love to hear it.

Here’s some self-disclosure: I’ve never really had an emotional connection to a bag or piece of furniture until I came across LA-based designer, Stephen Kenn’s, work.

“One of the things I’m really passionate about is revealing the process. I want people to know how things are made, who they are made by, and put a face to the actual product that they are sitting on, wearing, or carrying.” — Stephen Kenn Studio

We recently had a conversation on #SoundsGood about telling the story behind production, and we think Stephen holds a thoughtful and optimistic approach to the process.

"When you think of the word ‘refugee’ you think of people fleeing war, blood and violence. I think that’s an important part of the narrative but that’s not all of it. That’s usually where it starts and where it ends. I really want to change that.”

—Ahmed Badr, Founder of Narratio

“Armando Bo knows the power of a good story. After 17 years spent honing his writing and directing craft, he was one of a team of four writers in 2014 to win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for magical realism film Birdman.

‘A good story can make you change your life, it can make you take a decision,’ Bo says.”

We agree with the idea that stories are powerful and can be used tremendously ‘when they are fresh, new and an element of something different.’

‘As weird as it sounds, I appreciate the bomb now. It’s given me a gift and it’s given me a calling. And that calling is to provide space for people of my experience (as a refugee) to share their stories. That’s how Narratio was born.’

Former refugee and global teen leader, Ahmed Badr, shares his story and the founding of Narratio on #SoundsGood this week! You’re not going to want to miss this conversation!

We get to meet a lot of people making real impact.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of having a conversation with my friend Liz Bohannon on #SoundsGood. She talked about saying "yes", feminism, and speaking your dreams out loud.

Liz is full of energy, knows what taking big risks looks like, and is the founder of Sseko Designs, an ethical fashion brand that works to educate and empower women.

Take a minute to watch her speak about her passion for empowering women living in extreme poverty and conflict:

SO much has happened this week. However, a lot of people aren't talking about the good stuff. Former President Obama once said, 'We become so secure in our bubbles that we start accepting only information that fits our opinions.'

Choose joy. Resist cynicism. #Goodnewsletter is out today!

All week long, we get emails we don’t care about. Why not sign up for one you want? Every Tuesday, you’ll get five good new stories worth knowing about delivered right to your inbox.

Happy Mother's Day to my brave, brilliant, beautiful mom. ❤️ I'm so glad Sammi and I got to spend the weekend with her. We've kind of created an accidental tradition of spending the weekend looking at plants and flowers. I think these cactuses count!
