Finding brave writer has changed our lives. I love reading to all the kids no matter how old they are and they love being read to. I love incorporating the lifestyle into teaching writing at our co-op.... I love the validation that Julie provides because I also have five kids and they sleep in so I can work in the morning‘s and the rest of the day is all about discovery and chill and reading and of course some math but I love how all the subjects can be incorporated into reading and it can be made fun. I'm a faithful listener to the podcast and FB live sessions. Julie and her team provide invaluable information, resources, encouragement and inspiration! She's your biggest cheerleader and advocate in... your homeschool journey. What I really love is that Julie embraces learning in whatever style or form it takes. I have been encouraged on so many different levels by Julie. From her fb posts, her Instagram feed, and her podcast. I have one of her "A Gracious Space" books and enjoy picking it up and reading an e...ntry. I have a quote of hers taped to my bedroom mirror. One of my biggest take-always from Julie has been: enjoying my kids. I am such a by-the-book, check-list-maker, and workbook-lover that her ideas inspire me to slow down sometimes and relish my children. One of our favorite things now is to throw an old tablecloth on the table, set out tea/hot chocolate, and enjoy some baked treat while I read aloud. It has become an almost sacred time. It actually has gotten to the point that when I bake something the kids bring me a book to read. Deepest gratitude, Julie. Thank you. See More

Saved our homeschool. Literally. we would not be where we are without Bravewriter. I would not have found the courage, resources, and inspiration to have continued beyond the first 3 months. If I ...hadn't stumbled upon Julie on Youtube and joined this amazing, inspiring community I wouldn't be enjoying this homeschool life and it's options with my family. I wouldn't have had the guts to take on my middle schooler this fall, or my daughter's dyslexia- or found Rita and Moira @ Rooted in Language. We wouldn't be diving into Fairytales, living vicariously through Tom Sawyer, or studying nature. My family is better, my children are healthier, and we are having a blast living the Bravewriter lifestyle.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The Brave Writer Lifestyle meshes so perfectly with our family and homeschool philosophy that I almost feel like it was designed for us.

How often can you say that about curriculum?...

So it’s no wonder I gush about Brave Writer all the time. The Brave Writer Lifestyle has helped shape our homeschool. We are better for it.

And yet, when you ask me to describe what the Brave Writer Lifestyle looks like for our family, it’s challenging.

If you are a product of the public education system, you are used to schedules and routines and checklists. On Monday you have forty minutes of gym class and on Tuesday you have forty minutes of music. Everything progresses in order, from A-Z. You keep going until you finish. And then you move on.

Brave Writer is not like that. If you are a person who needs a lesson plan, this is not a program for you. Brave Writer is fluid and ever-present and it grows with your family. It’s not a program, it’s a lifestyle.

Brave Writer emphasizes routines over schedules. It is made up of moments and relationships and big juicy conversations.

And, once you relax into it, it’s absolutely wonderful.

I love this lifestyle, learned about bravewriter when during our big break around this time two years ago, but it has taken me until now to start implementing it fully. My kids and I are loving it and... growing so much because it allows us to learn while still being who we each are during the process of learning how we learn and building our relationships as well. I'm still new at it, but I'm learning how to put it into practice. So grateful we found Brave Writer lifestyle. So far, we consistently do Poetry tea time and free writing routinely. Still reading my copy of the bravewriter jungle Ebola that I printed out and bonded. I also love the coaching and encouragement for me. Hoping we can do the bravewriter basic altogether soon, trying to budget it. See More

We're on our 3rd full year of using BraveWriter. I've seen less resistance and more writing come out of my stubborn boy than I had ever hoped to see. I'm not saying it's easy, but this approach is s...o much more enjoyable and realistic, it sets you at ease. The first time I read A Writer's Jungle I swear I cried half of the time because it just seemed to speak to me and take a load off my back that I felt was dragging me down. I'm so glad I found it when I did! See More

Our family loves Brave Writer! It allows us to homeschool on our own terms. With 6 kids, from 3-13, we have used many, many of the BW products and loved them all. They are tools for creating the co...nnected homeschool that we all need. See More

It is a privilege to not only teach my own kids writing through Brave Writer methods and materials, but to teach other parents and young writers here at Brave Writer is an experience like no other. Th...ere is simply nothing else out there for homeschoolers like Brave Writer. After being here for 12 years, I'm just as enthusiastic about working for and teaching at Brave Writer as I was in 2002 when I started here. Julie is a constant inspiration, and **I love my job!!** See More

Julie, Love your insight - wish my "government required" schooling had taught just half of what you cover in your writing tips. Also love that you write conversationally. My Grand-kids will not be de...prived. They are being taught to write using your tips. I believe if you can write coherently - you can do anything. Love the way your mind works! See More

I am a huge fan of Brave Writer! It has completely changed my way of thinking about teaching writing and both my daughter and I are so much happier for the change. It's just such an organic way of lea...rning that it flows well with our other work. I've had The Writer's Jungle for a year and have found so many useful ideas in it. I recently purchased both Jot It Down and Partnership Writing and I'm excited to implement those ideas this year. See More

Work with what your kids give you! Help them sort it out. Model what it looks like when it matches what you are hoping to hear. Then give them the chance to do it, with your help.

Mom: What do I do when my son [age 11] retells the details of a book or movie or story, but he can’t tell me the overarching narrative that goes with it? Like he can’t say the main plot points. He rambles and gets caught up in details that are non-essential to the plot, but he tells them with so...
