A new study from Spain found that 100 samples of coffee were contained with mycotoxins, and 5 samples had levels over the legal limit for Ochratoxin A, which is the only mycotoxin with legislated levels in the EU.
There are NO regulations for Ochratoxin A in the U.S. and Canada. So these countries are often dumping grounds for tainted coffee. Listen to my podcast with Dan Cox for more info on this.
The more amazing part about the study is that it is the first major study focu...sing on multi mycotoxin synergies. What this means is that even if you have a "safe" levels of one toxin, that level is not safe if there are other unregulated toxins present. This study showed that the other toxins are nearly universally present. (I had no idea this research was underway and am amazed to see it.)
Bulletproof is the only company to have internal standards in place for multi mycotoxin amplification effects in coffee, and to test for 25 mycotoxins that can form in coffee, along with two other toxins. To achieve these levels, we modified the production process of green coffee by removing fermentation entirely. As I have written about since the beginning of the blog, washed coffee can sometimes reduce levels but it is not complete or reliable.
Mold toxins other than Ochratoxin A, like Aflatoxin, can have bad effects on your performance and happiness.
The quality of your coffee affects the quality of your life. What is *not* in your coffee is as important as what is in your coffee!
Great Forbes article about "electroceuticals" and using electricity to hack the body. The most interesting device is a tongue stimulator called PoNS.
For a decade, I've fantasized about doing Neurofeedback using a tongue printer instead of sound as the feedback. (A tongue printer sends tiny electrical signals to your tongue, which is one of your most primordial sense organs )
Haven't had the time to hack something like that together myself. It's amazing to see what these comp...anies are doing to hack that electrical system instead of just the chemical or hormonal systems in the body.

Bulletproof Cupcakes #Recipe
I developed this recipe over a period of about 2 years and largely for my kids. My daughter, Anna, who’s eight, still loves baking and I like to think it’s because, before she was old enough to walk, she used to make these with me. Most Paleo-style desserts are simply too carby, but these can work with almost no carbs at all if you omit the rice flour. They taste amazing, and ...they’re not dry or tough. The trick is to use whipped egg whites. If you use erythritol, watch for its endothermic (strongly cooling) reaction with the proteins in the egg, which drops the temperature of the mixing bowl by about 20 degrees! If sweet rice flour is not available, just omit it; don’t substitute regular rice flour, which will make the cupcakes taste gritty.
Makes 20 cupcakes
6 tablespoons erythritol
6 tablespoons xylitol
12 ounces dark chocolate (at least 85% cacao), chips or finely chopped bar
1 ½ sticks (6 ounces) grass-fed unsalted butter, at room temperature
Pinch of pink Himalayan salt
6 large pastured eggs, at room temperature, separated
2 teaspoons Bulletproof VanillaMax
1 teaspoon Bulletproof Upgraded Chocolate Powder
1 tablespoon sweet rice flour
Position racks in the upper and lower thirds of the oven and preheat to 350°F. Line 20 cups of 2 muffin tins with paper liners.
Pulse the erythritol and xylitol in a blender until finely ground. Set aside.
In a small saucepan, bring about 2 cups water to a simmer over medium-low heat.
Place the chocolate and butter in a large heatproof bowl that can sit on top of the saucepan but not directly touching the water.
Place the bowl on the pan and stir occasionally until the chocolate and butter are completely melted, about 10 minutes.
Remove from the heat and set aside to cool slightly.
In a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat together 6 tablespoons of the powdered erythritol/xylitol, the salt, and egg yolks on medium-high speed until the mixture is thick and pale, about 3 minutes. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the yolk mixture into the melted chocolate and stir in the vanilla powder, cocoa powder, and sweet rice flour.
In a separate bowl, with an electric mixer, beat the egg whites on medium speed until soft peaks form. Slowly beat in the erythritol/xylitol, then increase the speed to medium-high and beat until medium peaks form.
Gently fold the egg white mixture into the chocolate mixture, one-third at a time, until combined. Using a 1⁄4-cup ice cream scoop or cup measure, spoon the batter into the muffin cups. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out with a few moist crumbs, about 25 minutes. Let cool in the pan about 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

!['Finally had a chance to see the print edition of this month's @[14866608226:274:Men's Fitness] magazine on a stop over at LAX.
On the cover is @[181490248630946:274:Liam Hemsworth], and in the 8 page (wow!) article on biohacking, I'm quoted as having "the most expensive pee on the planet" because I'm not bothered when my body has so many vitamins available that my kidneys let any extra go.
Slight correction: I take vitamin K2, not vitamin K1, and after eight years of nearly continuous use, I quit using modafinil about 3 years ago because I've got my biology dialed in so well that it doesn't make much difference anymore.
This is an awesome, well balanced article about biohacking, quoting both supporters and critics. It's well written and engaging and will help people who read it and realize that they probably have more control of their biology than they think!
Seeing this in print made my ego get all excited. Doing some meditation to shut that sh*t down now. ;)'](https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-0/p118x118/12072636_913794235353890_6125241289215189359_n.jpg?oh=b9b8222ee6aab1b1d6ab8f3586947483&oe=56AE67AB)
