This event is always well done!! The atmosphere is awesome and working alongside so many wonderful people and friends before and after the race is very rewarding. It's something everyone should do on ...thanksgiving day. Gobble, gobble, gobble go for human kind. See More

Great event! I've been doing the Turkey Trot for I believe 10 years in a row with my family. It is family friendly, a great chance to see the Lynchburg community out and about, and a great race that only gotten better over time! My only complaint is that as a charity run we can donate more money to Human Kind. I believe by forfeiting our medals (and possibly tshirts) we can donate more money to the organization that we are running for. Just a suggestion! See More

My children have run the Turkey Trot for two years now.
My youngest son has various disabilities keeping him from being able to run himself. Thanks to Amanda Myers-Ramirez, her husband, Brian ...Myers, Audrey Ferguson, and United Athletics, my son is able to take part in a team effort and experience the excitement and accomplishment of being in and completing a run.
My daughter, his big sister, runs to help support her brother's efforts and, as The Myers family have encouraged her, to one day push her brother in these runs. Running together has helped develop a bond between my daughter and her little brother.
I must say, however, one of the most special parts of any inclusive run is that these children being pushed have been allowed to get out of their stroller to walk across the finish line if able. Crossing that finish line with the support and hands of his big sister and running partner offers an AMAZING sense of accomplishment for all involved.
Unfortunately, this was not allowed or supported at this this year's run.
As a child with autism, my son often does not like crowds. He finds them frightening but when he sees his friends and family cheering him on at the finish line his face lights up and his world opens up. His father and I work hard to provide and encourage our son to open up to the world around him no matter how uncomfortable or difficult it may be for him.
Not to mention, he didn't even see the face of the beautiful person pushing behind him. The person who came home from college and gave up her family time on a holiday, even her birthday, to push our little boy.
For a child with autism it is important to build relationships and for him to know he didn't just roll through that run on the wheels of a stroller. Their IS a face, a friend with strength, dedication, acceptance, and love back there.
Let's embrace it Lynchburg!!

In the interest of safety, we'll be cancelling our weekly fun run usually held on Tuesday. The sidewalks from the store will be icy at best. Most are not clear...ed. Please plan on joining us next week. Be safe out there. Seek out a safe course and perhaps change the time of day you run. Daylight is your friend in these conditions. Dress to be seen (leave the white running jacket or shirt at home.).

Happy Monday Trotters and new year.

This year take advantage of the many 5Ks in Lynchburg, not just ours, because it's fun and good for your brain!

Have a great week

If it feels like the Monday-est Monday ever, go for a run.

Exercise can improve key brain chemicals, study suggests.
