Troubleshoot Phone Call Issues

Your confirmation phone call should come within two minutes after clicking “Call Me Now.” The phone call will come from a 650 or 216 area code.

Make sure:

  • Someone can answer the phone call.
  • The phone number provided doesn't go to an automated service (including an answering machine).

    Note: We're not able to leave messages. A person must answer the call to get the code.
  • The phone number isn't a toll-free number (starting with 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844 or 833).
  • The line isn't busy.

If you're providing a Google Voice number and having issues, ensure that “Call Screening” is turned off.

To turn off “Call Screening”:

    In the Google Voice mobile app:
    1. Press the menu button (☰) on the top left.
    2. Click Settings.
    3. Go down to Screen Calls and make sure it’s turned off.
    On Google Voice on a desktop:
    1. Click the Settings button on the right hand side (the Gear symbol).
    2. Go to Screen Calls and make sure it’s turned off.

If you're not receiving a phone call:

  1. On a mobile device, try adding +1-650-285-1001 as a contact in your phone. You can remove the contact after you've received and submitted your code.
  2. On a landline, ensure that your organization doesn't block certain phone numbers. If so, try adding +1-650-285-1001 as an approved caller.
