Create a Set of Items in a Catalog

A set, or product set, is a sub-group of items within your catalog. You can create sets and use them to showcase items from your catalog in:

  • Dynamic, collection or carousel ads: Select a set when you create an ad in Ads Manager to control which items from your catalog will appear in the ad. A set for collection ads must contain 4 or more items. A set for carousel ads must contain 2 or more items.
  • Facebook Shops: A set that you use in your shop is called a collection. With collections, you can feature groups of items to customers in your shop on Facebook or Instagram. A collection must contain 2 or more items.

Before you begin

You need the Manage catalog or Create ads permission for the catalog in Business Manager to work on sets. Ask the business admin to assign you permission if needed.

Create a set of items in a catalog

To create a new set:

  1. Go to Commerce Manager and select your catalog.
  2. Open the Catalog tab and go to Sets. Your existing sets appear here.
  3. Select Create Set.
  4. Select a method to control which items go into your set:
    • Select Use Filters to add all applicable items to the set with filtering. For example, you could apply filters to create a set containing all women’s shoes in your catalog that cost less than $50.
    • Select Manually select items to add items to your set individually.

Note: If you have a catalog for hotels, flights, destinations, vehicles or home listings, you won't be asked to select an option. You'll use filters to create your set.

  5. Enter a name for your new set. Then, continue based on the method you're using to create your set:
    • To use filters, select an attribute in the first dropdown menu to filter items by. For example, price or name. Enter your search terms in the text box and use the second dropdown menu to narrow your search with options like starts with or contains. To apply more filters, select Add Another Filter and repeat. Follow our best practices for filtering sets.
    • If you chose to manually select items, click the checkbox next to each item you want in your set. If any items you selected have variants, you can choose which one to show in your ads and sales channels. Under Selected Items on the right, select next to an item to view its variants with a different color, pattern, material or image and select the one you want to show. Note that this choice will apply for that item across all your sets, not just this set.
  6. When you're finished, select Create.

You've created a set of items in your catalog.

You can now select your set when you create ads in Ads Manager. Or, select Advertise Set to start creating a catalog sales campaign from your set. You can also select your set to use as a featured collection in your shop.

Return to the Sets tab to view, edit, duplicate or delete your set or to check which ads or sales channels are using it. If you've set up a shop in Commerce Manager, you can also go to the Shops tab to create and manage your featured collections.

Note: You can't delete a set if it’s being used in an ad campaign that's currently running. We also recommend that you don't edit it. The items people see in your ad may change and your ad performance may be impacted for up to two weeks while we update your audience.
