It's been a long March for equality. This 97 years of women having the right to vote. Women have been in politics forever. They might not have been the voice, but they definitely been part of politics for the begin. We have expanded voting rights for African American women native women latinas a but we need more representation in the corners of power. We have about 25 percent of the state Legislature or women. We could do a little bit better. Ah be sleep. We have some women governors across the country and in in them Congress. I think I want a five are women, but we have a lot of work to do. We can now always you have to get more women elected We are inching forward on, but at the current rate of progress, it will be 20 eighty before we reach political parody um in uh the United States and that puts politics behind even business and economics in terms of equality. For women. But still in America. You know there are more ceos named John than there are female ceos of companies, women's equality means that we look at different women in our lives and we think about what makes some important you know what we appreciate our grandmothers. We appreciate our playlist. We appreciate And on us we appreciate our moms and we're not going back because we can't let what they've had go to this is all those women who are such for all these years and we're here today, because of what they were able to go to the rights that weekend and we today we keep going forward so the girls after us can have the benefits of. We don't have to women are so used to being told no all their lives and so we get creative and finding out how do we get to a yes and I think that's really important with women legislators, not to say that men don't have that to you right women After you, you're used to being told no you can't do that. It's never been done. That way that we find a way to do that, especially when you're a woman that's raised a family. You have to be creative about many things. So you get to elected office and you say I got that I know I know how to do that. I know how to get there. I think that we have a massive an important role because we not only defend many women and their rights, but we stand alongside them along the whole entire journey. So it's not just from the start we don't just talk about it. We actually do it We take action in doing it many of us Democrats, not just women, uh. We partner up with many great organizations outside of us some of my very good friends work alongside or with an parenthood be we met at the airports protesting the immoral and unconstitutional Muslim ban made we met doing diane's in the streets to protect the affordable care act and advance our vision of a single payer. Medicare for all system, maybe we met knocking Doors with sister district, individual and some of these new groups who have come into formation to join with and in partnering with our wonderful candidates who are running for office and friends of partnerships are everything because we really need to really work with others and work together to be a United front. We need to build coalitions it's not just about me or about someone else is really about standing together to really accomplish what we want and more than just listening. We need to be willing to walk with each other and March with each other and we need to be allies for each other, because uh we are Democrats and we are fighting the most sexist and misogynistic President um and you know what my pen scares me more. He won't even meet with the woman on his own um and and that is the single most disrespectful thing. I could ever imagine happening in the year 20 seventeenth in the White House and I mean we have we not C, is marching in the Street. You know that there are people who feel like I shouldn't be here because I'm a woman and that's not okay and the sandy. We as a Democratic party, we're leading the charge and we need to continue to lead the charge for women for girls and for America The election wasn't just about a vastly inferior man defeating a very talented woman. It wasn't just about a partisan result that had practical consequences in people's lives. There is something that is run deeper in the American cycling, particularly among women in our donald trump is terrifying. President um I can see you know the the impact that he's had on the National site you know it's because of donald trump that we have the women's March, which it's unfortunate that it took that event for us to have the largest gathering of female active since maybe the movement of the Sun for job that's half of women in politics is not new. This has been a very history Um track for women and so anywhere there's a man there's gotta be a woman somewhere in there making sure that things are dead correct. One of the things that I tell young women is don't take no for an answer if you feel there is a the way to make something happened or to improve upon things and people say no. Don't take no for an answer find go keep going on up until you find the person that says yes, I think we can make that happen and you'll be surprised how that that has worked for me and I tell young people that let your voice be heard because not everyone's. Gonna list If so you need to speak loudly, even if you're shaking even if you're traveling be sure that you speak, because no one 's gonna hear you if you don't say
