It has been my pleasure to serve as the Ward E Councilwoman for the past four years. While I am not seeking reelection, I look forward to serving the rest of my term and being right there with you as a resident working to make Jersey City the best that it can be. Thank you Jersey City for the experience. P.S. Everyone: Still all in for Team Steven Fulop 2017! - Candice
Update on the increased parking enforcement we asked for: the Division of Parking has done some retraining and reprioritization and is cracking down on those parking without permits. Here are the number of tickets issued for parking over 2 hours downtown without a permits in April: Zone 1(70), Zone 3 (224), Zone 4 (165), Zone 5&6 (221)
So happy to see this get done. While we didn't have authority to make this a law via the City Council, I asked Mayor Fulop and he created the Executive Order. Proud of Jersey City.
Be safe Jersey City. Don't drive tomorrow (it's not cool, just dumb). Don't park your cars on the corners (we will tow). Don't over-do it (let me know if you need help shoveling.) Do drink hot chocolate. Do snuggle up and watch a movie. Do lending a helping hand to an elderly or disabled neighbor.
So proud of Jersey City!!! While the Executive Order revoking Title IX guidance for transgender students is beyond offensive, the good news is that last June our Our Board of Education passed policy 5145. 7 regarding nondiscrimination on the basis of gender identity and expression and has trained teachers and staff.
Yesterday met at Congressman Sires DC office to discuss issues important to Jersey City residents including immigration issues and transportation funding. I learned that one of the Congressman's core governing beliefs is that providing affordability/funding to a program or access to a program not sufficient and that they must occur together: access AND affordability.
Per the ACLU regarding Trumps immigration changes: Lawyers are stationed at airports across U.S. If you know someone entering country, tell them not to sign anything before talking to lawyer
Remember this? We shut down their operations for 3 months while we came up with a framework to receive community input into the design and got additional concessions for sidewalk and road restoration. Unfortunately chromium was found and it slowed the process for 2 years. We received word that the clean up is complete and so now the developer now has 6 months to finish the buildout. Very happy to see this finally move forward.
Fun picture with Christine Goodman for ArtHouse's annual Snowball program. But I also want to highlight a wall of art in my apartment. All of it was purchased in Jersey City. How lucky are we to have this kind of talent in Jersey City!
Backstage at the annual Jersey City Nutcracker. Tonight a reprised my role as Mama Canoli with these kiddos. So incredible to see a show that successfully combines professionals, pre-professionals, 4 year olds...and even me (zero dance skills) here in JC.
