I was a fellow at CJJC and the short 5 months I worked with them impacted my life trajectory. I learned so much and was so humbled and inspired by community leaders, dedicated staff and volunteers. I am proud to have been a part of CJJC's immigrant rights and housing justice work.

They want to shut down a police agency that does nothing but help keep illegal aliens out of the country. Legal immigrants are not bothered by only illegal. It ...would be like a gang want me to shut down the gang unit in the Police Department. Makes no sense, just criminals trying to make it easier for themselves! Ver más

Inspiration - tenants and community organizations coming together to promote community control as a means to fight gentrification - Yes!

"The tenants’ collective efforts to buy the building could become a model for low-income people and grassroots groups fighting displacement. Currently, the commercial tenants and the residents of the eight upstairs apartments are working together to come up with a plan for a collective ownership model that will likely entail creating separate co-ops for residential and commercial tenants."

Cycles of Change, Peacock Rebellion and other tenants envision a permanent social justice center led by queer and trans people of color.

Favianna Rodriguez on art & culture as a strategy to address migration, economic injustice, sexual freedom, and globalization.

Amazing interview! Paste Magazine spoke with the Afro-Peruvian master of multiples, Favianna Rodriguez, about using art and culture as a strategy to address migration, economic injustice, sexual freedom, and globalization.

These three words give dual meaning to Oakland artist Favianna Rodriguez’s daffodil-colored print of a stained-glass-esque butterfly, the wings of which are appropriately filled with human likenesses. The pro-migration butterfly is just one of the many distinctive images used throughout the artist’s...

50 years after Dr. King’s historic address, a new coalition called “The Majority” is emerging to tackle the triple evils identified by Dr. King and build a “multi-racial, cross-movement fight for justice, freedom and the right to live fully, with dignity and respect. This 50-organization-strong initiative includes the Black Lives Matter Global Network, Mijente, Fight for $15, Indigenous Environmental Network and many more organizations. #BeyondtheMoment Sarah Lazar

A new coalition emerges. On April 4, 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “Beyond Vietnam” speech in which he denounced the scourges of “poverty, racism, and militarism.” Exactly one year later, he was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee, while organizing alongside black sanitation workers…

Today is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's 'Beyond Vietnam' speech during which he named racism, capitalism and militarism as the "giant triplets" responsible for the harm marginalized people experience in this nation. He urged those committed to justice to confront the "fierce urgency of now." Around the nation mass mobilizations are taking place. #BeyondtheMoment

Luis Gongora Pat, a 45-year-old unemployed restaurant worker who migrated to San Francisco from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in 2002, was gunned down by San Francisco police officers on a street in the Mission District a year ago in April, His brother told the Chronicle: "“I want your newspaper readers to know who we are as Mayans. We feed you, we clean up after you. There’s a humility and simplicity to the Mayan man everywhere. What we give you as Mayans is not just our labor but our heart. We gift you our friendship. It’s the greatest gift we can give you.” Join our March honoring Luis on April 7. http://bit.ly/2ov5rvu

Cities are a web of fragile human connections, a silent pledge that while we might not always respect each other, we at least will honor each other’s turf. A killing, particularly in a city the size of San Francisco, rips a gash through that delicate fabric. When Luis Gongora Pat, a 45-year-old unem...
