I'd like to thank the trail maintenance team for draining all the puddles. Last week there were quite a few deep ones but none today👍I ride there quite regularly and really appreciate all the work that is done by the people willing to give their time up to keep it maintained.

Been up for the first time today and loved it, only did follow the dog and was very wet and muddy which is even more fun in my opinion. Heard alot of peole the surface is slippery especially when wet but i had no problems and im only running maxxis ardents @ 25psi. Be there again next weekend for the monkey ! See More

Myself and my daughters boyfriend rode the follow the dog and the monkey trail yesterday. It was my second trip round both loops this year and we both really en...joyed ride.

I did have a wipeout at the end of Deer Skull after a sharp drop into some dirt and pebbles, the guy behind me who joined us for the back loop said it looked pretty spectacular. The only damage done was to my right knee cap, which had some grit in it, and some damage to my right rib cage, the bike was unscathed and I carried on with a little restriction.

I only started riding three and a half years ago and it just goes to show that even in your 50's there is a supreb sport you can take up to get you outdoors and keep your fitness level up.

I have been mountain biking the chase trails for 6 years almost every weekend and never get bored, it's well maintain, well signed, everybody that goes there is... friendly and always happy to be sociable, it's a great training ground for the bigger stuff we like in the Lake District and Peak District, long may it continue. Just back from my first adventure on FTD and the monkey trail - best 3 hours I've ever spent on a bike. Amazing what you've created there with volunteers and of...fer up to ride for free, and that spirit shows through out there on the trail - very friendly as newbies and pros negotiate each other. Be back soon. See More

Brillant place I spent the day there today with my 10 yr old son, we rode both follow the dog and monkey trails. Everybody we meet both on the trails and in the shops were very friendly and helpful. Although it was a fare drive to get to, we will be coming back soon!

perfect for averagely fit rider like me, on a hardtail bike (If you bring FS 120 F/R is really all you need). except for a few short rocky bits guys on full bou...ncers have very little advantage here. despite that, the trail can be challenging if you open up a bit. some as fast as you dare flowing sections, hard but doable climbs and great facilities. stile cop park just down the road for gravity freaks. tried it but had 2 punctures at the rear in 5 runs-you do need a full susser there. so-4 stars for the monkey (5 is reserved for places that put M in the MTB). absolutely loved it and will be back. Had a cracking time here on Saturday in the wet. The new sections are very good and the new surfacing on some of the older trails has made them smooth and fast. Can't wait to come back. Keep up the good work.

First time out on the trails today. I will be back. You've really made the most out of what elevation you've got there. Really fun riding.
Might lob an inch or two off the bars tho :) some tight tree runs.

Coming from bmx to mtb i wasn't expecting much in comparison to dirt jumps and trails i used to ride. But was pleasently suprised at how good of a job has been done! Was a pleasent evenings ride

We won't be out trail building tomorrow, due to most of the team having other commitments.

Remember, Chase Trails is 100% volunteer run, and Follow the Dog and The Monkey Trail are built and maintained by around 5-10 of us on a weekly basis. Anyone is welcome to volunteer and help out - you can find all the details on our website if you haven't attended a build day before:'s Bike Live demo event will be taking place on Saturday 8th April at Birches Valley, from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

They'll have a selection of road bikes and mountain bikes from Giant, Canyon, Cube, Liv, Rose, Whyte, Ribble, Wilier and Marin to try out, and tickets cost £20 each. More info and details at the link below.

Whether you want to ride on Tarmac, gravel or mountain bike trails, we have the perfect loop for testing out the bikes that interest you

Heads up! We won't be trail building next weekend due to various commitments - so we'll be taking a week off.

We'll be back to work on the 2nd April if anyone would like to come and help out.

Work continues on Twist & Shout today -

Safe to say, it was a bit wet today...

More progress on Twist & Shout today - got a little bit of work still to do but we should be done fairly soon. Hopefully we get some some drier weather so it'll all bed in, eh?

Hooray! Our staff and contractors have worked hard this week and we are pleased to say Follow the Dog and the Monkey Trail are now open! Twist and Shout will re...main on Diversion whilst Chase Trails continue with their re-surfacing works – they meet at 10am on Sundays if you want to help out.

We're very nearly almost there - here's today's progress on Twist & Shout. Unfortunately we're about 3-4 barrow loads short of the end, so we're not quite finished, but as good as, really!

Had it not been for the wind picking up a fair bit this afternoon, we'd have finished, but safety comes first and foremost so we decided to pack up early.

As always - please don't ride the new surface until it's bedded in. Doing so will damage it and cause delays to reopening it.

Unfortunately, Follow the Dog & The Monkey Trail will remain CLOSED over the weekend while FC staff work to clear the trails of debris and any unsafe trees from Thursday's storm. Birches Valley car park will reopen tomorrow, along with the cafe and bike shop.

Please don't ride the trails until the FC have completed their work and made the trails safe.

In other news, the Run & Ride Winter Classic is due to be taking place this weekend - it does not use any of Follow the Dog bu...t there are two marshalled crossings (at Tackeroo campsite and after Hugh's Bridge) - details here:

In addition, we'll still be trail building on Sunday. Volunteers are welcome - join us from around 10:30am on site at Twist & Shout (look for the Chase Trails flags to find us).

Birches valley junction.

Birches Valley and the bike trails will likely only be open tomorrow afternoon at the earliest, due to storm damage. Please don't attempt to visit the forest until it's open - for your own safety.

The FC will be going out tomorrow morning to assess the damage and remove any dangerous trees. We'll share any updates as and when we receive them.

Thank you.

Wow! Storm Doris is really giving us a battering. The forest is still closed to visitors and will remain closed for the rest of the day.

Even once the storm has... passed, there are a number of safety checks we need to perform and repair work to be carried out to ensure the impacts of the storm are not dangerous for visitors. Although our forests are great places to visit all year round, in high winds it can be really dangerous, as branches are at risk of falling and in some cases whole trees have been uprooted. We will update Facebook once the forest park is safe and reopen to visitors.

Site closure: please be aware that due to extreme winds and the weather warnings in place we've taken the decision to close Birches Valley tomorrow (Thursday). ...

Our forests are brilliant places to explore all year round, but in high winds it can be really dangerous, as branches are at risk of falling and in some cases whole trees have been uprooted. We use specialist weather forecasting data and our knowledge of our sites to predict when wind strength, direction and other weather conditions may pose a threat, and then act accordingly to help keep the forest a safe place to visit. So please follow safety signage and any diversions that you see.
