Speech I gave on Thursday as to why I believe YOU are a miracle and have a greater purpose. I am blessed to be here with you.

How did we get here and what can we do about it now?

I think we can all agree that the images we see of mass shootings, violence and the loss of innocent lives ...are equally disturbing, unacceptable and emotionally gut-wrenching to all of us.

I fully understand the immediate and emotional reaction from everyone to just want to do something/anything to put an end to all this senseless bloodshed. This is true for everyone regardless of your political beliefs but after days of bitter hurt, anger, savage arguments from people hiding behind keyboards, it is time for us to have a genuine discussion as to how to stop the next school shooting from occurring. We must stop these atrocities and some nefarious players from tearing our nation, our families and our friends apart. I have had friends I love unconditionally and of course political foes on my Facebook page ask me how I square with the Republicans, the NRA or the second amendment supporters killing innocent children? Many of these people are compassionate, loving and care deeply but the fear of this happening again has made some people lash out at others or the weapons they see as the producers of this evil. I am a conservative Christian Republican that still believes the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights are some of the greatest documents ever written for the good of all mankind. Most of all I am someone who has the utmost love and respect for all and the dignity of life.

So when somebody asks me if I am in favor of gun control my answer is simple. I am for making sure guns do not end up in the hands of those with psychological problems, those with violent criminal backgrounds and anyone else that possesses them illegally. In short, I am for anything that protects freedom loving individuals but especially the good and the innocent from harm and destruction. This is why I believe law-abiding citizens have every right to protect themselves against criminals that can rape, murder or physically harm them as they do 2.5 million times a year. I wholeheartedly believe in protecting the second amendment because I do care about the safety of the innocent and a guard against a tyrannical government. Do I wish we lived in a world where there was no such thing as murder, violence, hatred and evil and thus no need for weapons to protect ourselves and loved ones? Of course, but unfortunately, that is not the world we live in today, nor has it ever been that way throughout history.

We need reasonable solutions right now for the good of America.

Here are some solutions for our schools I think most of us can agree on to stop these inhumane and senseless shootings rather than getting into a debate about gun control. At this point, I doubt anyone is being persuaded one way or the other over gun control so let us seek some common ground.
1. Metal Detectors in Every School: I am aware that these are cumbersome but we use them at every other stadium, concert, building, and event these days so why are we not providing this security and protection for the youngest and most innocent amongst us.

2. Recruit Retired Military & Law Enforcement: They are already living in our neighborhoods and are usually already trained properly and possess firearms. So many of these men and women have shown themselves to be selfless and wish to serve the safety of others already.

3. Arm Appropriate Personnel: This can only be done with people that are willing to do it and are 100% trained properly. They would serve as a second line of defense.

4. Reinforce Doors, Windows, Buses, and Locks- These entrances were used in the past but in the most recent shooting in Florida, the new technology of the glass prevented bullets from penetrating the glass and hitting more victims and saved lives.

5. Let the public know of the security measures already in place: Hopefully, this will discourage any of these deranged individuals from attempting anything like this when they realize all the obstacles and resistance.

I think we must identify the root problems that need to be addressed before kids or adults get to the point of these violent furies.

1. Mental Health: This is obviously a serious problem throughout the country now. I do take it very seriously but we have to be careful with what these kids are being prescribed. These kids should absolutely be seeking help but let’s just stop throwing pharmaceutical drugs at everything. I have zero medical background and I am sure that many of these drugs are beneficial but they seem to be a common denominator for far too many of these rampages. These psychiatric drugs which are documented to potentially cause mania, psychosis, violence, suicide and in some cases homicidal ideation need to be investigated in great historical detail. Are we prescribing our way into mass murderers?

2. Model and teach love and respect for all: This should start in a family and spread out from there. Children that never feel loved or are shown respect, care or kindness will rarely ever be able to share that with others. We have an epidemic of parentless kids being brought up in our society and the absolute destruction of the family unit. Thus discipline and the difference between right and wrong is never taught which leads to blurred morality.

3. Time and entertainment: Some kids routinely sit around for hours playing video games, watching videos or listening to music that glorifies blood and violence creating a culture without any regard to the precious miracle of human life. Kids model from those or that in which they spend the most time. So if they are constantly exposed to violence and mayhem I fear all the gun bans in the world will not stop the shootings and sickening bloodshed.

I love and respect all of you that want better for your families, children and this country and thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts.

God Bless

The challenges of sign waving solo. I asked that squirrel to take my picture 4 times before he got it right. He was very skittish and easily distracted. #Chisholm2018

I believe completely in the powerful potential in all of you but it does not matter much until you believe in yourself. Change your mindset for the better and you can change life around you for the better.

Chisholm for Maryland Signs -

My Grandfather grew up on an Iowa farm and he taught me early on that "Rain is a good thing". Could be a great country song! I could not agree with him more this AM while having a great morning sign waving in Pasadena. #Chisholm2018

Last night, I listened to an incredibly insightful, informative and emotional presentation by Dr. Mark Plaster on the Opioid epidemic and what he sees on a daily basis in the hospital and E.R. every day. He was a wealth of knowledge on what could be the challenge of our lifetime with all due respect to anyone facing other major challenges..

I also spoke with both County Executive Steve Schuh and States Attorney Wes Adams prior to this meeting in regards to the opioid epidemic... tearing apart our county, state and country right now. These men are doing some great things to help reverse this trend and stop it before it effects so many but it is a daunting task.

If you know of anyone in need of treatment, I was invited to tour Tranquility Woods last Friday. I sat with Executive Directors Ellen Kulp and Dr. Phil Philbin prior to the tour and discussed the facility. I was extremely impressed with the professionalism and multifaceted holistic approach they take in treating an individual and I believe their success rate solidifies my thoughts. I would never want to make a full hearted recommendation to anyone in this situation because everyone has different circumstances but Tranquility Woods in Pasadena, Md. is certainly worth exploring.

God Bless you all!

This was my daily quote from today and I love it. I tell my son often I cant tell you the exact formula for success but I can tell you that trying to please everyone IS the exact formula for failure. Just go out and boldly try to make the world a better place and passionately speak the trurth.

“The greatest fear in the world is of the opinions of others. And the moment you are unafraid of the crowd you are no longer a sheep, you become a lion. A great roar arises in your heart, the roar of freedom.”
