I love the city of Celina and the events held. The city seriously needs to address the historic downtown flooding problem though. I've lived here over 3 years now and the severe flooding continues!... If the city can't afford to fix the problem, they need to actively pursue a government grant, etc. We downtown residents are trying to keep the beautiful historic area a great place to live and to visit, but can't with rain water standing 5-6 inches deep covering the majority of a city block! It's time to fix the drainage problem!!! See More

The city needs to change the bulk trash pick up info on the city web site. I have been in Africa for the past 7 months and placed some plywood on the curb for pick-up on the fourth Saturday (as it has... been since I have lived in Celina). I then went to the website to confirm it was still fourth Saturday. It is. However, sometime while I was gone, the city changed it to where it states "Please call Waste Management at 1-800-772-8653 to get on the Bulky Waste pick-up list by noon on the Friday before the 4th Saturday. Please remember Waste Management does not collect hazardous waste. Freon must be removed from applicable appliances. " I called and got the after hours answering service for Waste Management and gave the lady my information. I was told it should not be a issue, even though it was 1930 on Friday night. The next morning (Saturday), I called Waste Management back and the lady I spoke with told me that there was no way she could help me since she could not find a account for my address. I thanked her for her time and called Mr. Joseph Johnson, the director of public works, and asked him about why I am supposed to call Waste Management but waste management cannot do anything to get the bulk items picked up since I do not have a direct account with them. Mr Johnson then told me that I was supposed to call the city to arrange pick-up. This is mentioned NOWHERE on the city website concerning bulk items. It specifically states on the website "A request may also be made 24 hours in advance or earlier by e-mail at If it is later than 24 hours in advance, residents will have to call 1-800-772-8653 to secure pick-up. ". If we need to call the city for bulk pick-up, put it on the city website in the appropriate area instead of telling residents to call a number that will do NOTHING to get the services requested. On the upside, after speaking to Mr Johnson this morning after no solution from Waste Management, a city pickup did just pick up the 5 sheets of 3'x3' plywood I set on the curb last night (gas grill had already been scavenged). Is it possible to get someone to remove the tree limbs on Malone (Between the school and 289)? The limbs are causing scratches to paintjobs and people are swerving to avoid them which endangers other and kids walking to school. The limbs have been there all last week. Thank you. See More

Does anyone know an after-hours phone number for the Utilities Dept? I came home to no water at 6pm on Friday. I would rather not go all weekend with no water.

The City of Celina has no regard for it's current homeowners nor their properties. It has the highest water rates around and does nothing about it. Because of Celina's inability to have planned for's future growth, the residents here have been paying the price for their mistakes for years. And if the water rates were not high enough, then they layer on additional fees for water runoff...really. It is still the the good ole boy system here which doesn't work anymore and needs to come to an end. If you are considering moving to one of their big new developments like Light Farms (which btw has double the water rates as those who live in the city limits and it sits next to the railroad tracks...hopefully you don't mind train whistles blowing at 2:00 am in the morning every night) or Mustang Lakes run away as fast as you can! The only good thing about these developments is that you will be in the Prosper ISD BUT be prepared at some point to be thrown into Celina ISD. It's just a matter of time. And when it happens, YOU WILL NOT HAVE A SAY! THEY WILL NOT LISTEN! THEY DO NOT CARE! Trust me you will be sorry if you move to Celina. The biggest mistake I ever made was moving to this city. I moved here 4 years ago and didn't know Celina was like this. I am writing this in the hope that other people will not make the same mistake that I did. I wish I would have known but I didn't and sadly I am now seriously contemplating moving from my dream home I had built because of The City of Celina. See More
