Really disappointed in the City of HS Water Dept. My bill runs around $20 a month for water only. During the real cold weather in January, I had a pipe in my yard burst and my bill was over $80. I v...isited the office and asked to get an adjustment. They adjusted my bill by $13.04 only. I cut off the pipe almost to the ground and capped and insulated it. They said that was not fixing the pipe. It was a pipe that was just in my yard. I am not sure what the prior owner had it attached to. They said I should have made it a working pipe. I have no need to have it attached to anything. Really disappointed in this department. I have been a customer since 1984. Was having my bills automatically paid by my bank account. I tried to get them to make payment arrangements and I was told to pay $40 this month and the rest including next months bill by it's due date. Sadly, I had to pay my water bill with a credit card. Was very disappointed that the Christmas lights were turned out by ten on a weekend night! It’s the holidays, they should be on until 12 at least!

Interesting how many gripe and complain - wonder if they have been attending meetings and offering positives solutions - I've lived here for over 20 years and have seen good and bad but many improveme...nts recently. We made huge leaps in progress under David Watkins and I hope we will see the same positive growth under the current city manager. I love our downtown and its growth. I see many improvements: our police chief is working to improve community relations; we are getting new sewer/water lines. I would like to see my street paved - it's been many years and other less traveled seem to be paved. I am encouraged that the good ole boys don't seem to have the hold they used to. See More

Tourists, County Residents, Arkansans: Boycott Hot Springs, Arkansas: Moscow On The Ouachita

A Civil War rages in Hot Springs, Arkansas between the City and County residents on whom the City has decl...ared war, seeking to impose its governance without the consent, in fact over the strenuous objection, of County residents.

It's past time for County residents, Arkansans, and out-of-state tourists to strike back and revolt against the Putin-like seizure of territory that does not belong to the City.

If City Hall, gone rogue as a virtual dictatorship, is gonna act like the Kremlin, then sanctions are warranted.

Beginning with a boycott of Hot Springs, especially of any businesses owned by City Directors.

Director Rick Ramick, given your dictatorial attitude toward County residents, their wishes, and their property rights and your having no value for the consent of those whom the City would govern without their consent, tell me this:

WHY should County residents NOT boycott totally your real estate business? WHY should ANY County resident going forward list ANY Garland County property with your real estate firm?

Same thing, Director Randy Fale: WHY should any County resident do business with your wine shop? Directors Becca Clark, Suzanne Davidson, and Elaine Jones, why should Garland County residents NOT shun you as community outcasts? Mayor Ruth Carney, Director Larry Williams, thank you for listening!

If you guys, and the equally power-mad women on the Board, are gonna act like tin-horn dictators, make Hot Springs into the Arkansas Kremlin, then you and your banana republic City should be treated as pariahs, outcasts, in your community, the State of Arkansas, and the country.

You folks disgust me and all honest citizens! Shame on you despotic excuses for human beings!

Maybe it's time not only to boycott but also to change things? To abolish the City Manager and Board of Directors en masse?

After all, as Mahatma Gandhi said, "Civil disobedience becomes a sacred duty when the state has become lawless or corrupt."

And Thomas Jefferson plots rebels a course: "When injustice becomes law resistance becomes duty".

You guys want a war?

We will give you a war!

Down with the despots falling-down drunk on their petty power!

We have only begun to fight! You ain't seen nothing yet!

You will now see what real activism looks like.

The City of Hot Springs is a tyrannical organization that is abusing a state law to annex thousands of rural acres without allowing the property owners to vote in order to supplement the shrinking pop...ulation. The property owners in these areas have previously voted against annexation.

This is a clear violation of the civil rights of the property owners who are having their rights stripped away. On December 6th the City held a hearing to "allow" comment. The hearing was difficult for residents to attend as it conflicted with the Christmas Parade which blocked street access to the facility. During the near four hours of comment only a single person spoke in favor of annexation. Everyone else pled their case not to be annexed.

The Hot Springs Board of Directors has heard from those they wish to annex. The only thing left is to see what kind of people those directors are.

When is this city going to fix the crappy roads and clean up the trashy downtown burnt down Majestic Hotel? Always worried about "banners" at a car lot and grass being to tall in people's yards, never... worried about the real important things that the city needs to fix first! See More

The city of hot springs has lost my respect. I will no longer spend a dime there unless it's completely necessary. The ignorance of your mayor, and the hatred he has displayed is appalling and unforgiving.

This is a wonderful place to live, surrounded by nature, with a progressive City government. There is always something to do and you can hike the mountains anytime that you want. #lifeinanationalpark

Your police department and court system has allowed seven children to a law-abiding family in your own community to be kidnapped by some very ignorant and willful officers. Shame on you. And shame on ...your police department and those officers. They come into a private home looking for a "miracle" cure bc the FDA has warned of "nausea, vomiting and diarrhea". You strain a gnat and swallow a camel. Look around you at what "legalized" prescription medications are doing to people in this increasingly feeble nation of ours. More than 200,000 people die annually as a direct cause of them. If you haven't already return those children at once! I rate you 1 star. In actuality that's one too many. See More

Why is this a National Park, it is a waste of monies that could go to a place that deserves it more. The buildings and the town are slummy looking, parking sucks and the roads are very poorly marked. ...This might have been nice at one time but not anymore most of the town needs to be tore down or rebuilt. The springs are all capped so there is really nothing to see except a few bathhouses. See More

Hot Springs is the absolute shittiest town I have ever been too. I can't believe they let a historic hotel get demolished just because "Oh we can't keep kids out." you know what's going to happen if t...his building is gone? People are going to go to all the other 50 Abandoned locations in this stupid city. Especially Abbey Hill, so many drug deals happen there. YOU ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO BE CALLED A HISTORIC TOWN! We have lived in Hot Springs for most of our life great place to have fun
Today, DT Specialized Services continued to take down the Majestic Hotel Lanai Tower elevator shaft in methodical fashion, while watering the site to minimize dust. Two cranes and a front-loader were busy smoothing dirt and sorting rubble.
On Monday, April 4, curbside plastics recycling goes citywide. Here's an interesting video on what happens to a plastic bottle after it leaves your hands.
With the MajestiCam temporarily down, here's a look at today's activities on the Majestic Hotel site. In the video, you can see two of three large machines sorting the remaining rubble, primarily metal and concrete. Each material is being hauled to local companies; much of the metal is being recycled. The finer, crushed concrete will be used onsite to shape and grade the landscape while facilitating drainage. Trips to the landfill with disposable material have mostly been completed by now. The demolition phase is nearing its close.
