Our Nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones in the shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. As a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the terrible act of violence perpetrated on February 14, 2018, by the authority vested in me as President ...of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, February 19, 2018. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

159th Street and Cicero Avenue Improvement Update: Click the links below to see how traffic will be detoured during the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) improvements slated to start this spring.

Stage 2 Map: June - August
West side of Cicero closed. 2-lane traffic on east lanes. All lanes open on 159th Street.
Stage 3 Map: August - November
East side of Cicero closed. 2-lane traffic on west lanes. All lanes open on 159th Street.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Thursday evening through Friday evening. No parking is allowed on City streets after 2” of snow has fallen. Please do not park on City streets for 12 hours after the snow stops falling to allow Public Works to plow and effectively clear streets of snow. Heavy snow is forecast with accumulations of 8 to 12 inches anticipated. Plan for difficult travel conditions into the weekend.
The Illinois Department of Transportation has notified the City of Oak Forest that 159th Street from Oak Avenue to Cicero in Oak Forest will be completely closed in both directions for at least 60 days starting April 2nd. IDOT will close the road to remove and replace a large culvert under road and intersection improvements. These improvements will include new double turning lanes on east bound 159th to north bound Cicero Avenue and a turn lane on east bound 159th to southbou...nd Cicero.
The culvert will be replaced under both 159th Street and Cicero Avenue in the following stages:
Start installing temporary traffic signals and utility relocation. This requires only day-time closures.
Completed closure of 159th Street from Oak Avenue to Cicero in both directions. This closure is set for 60 days. The detour route set by the IDOT will be Cicero Avenue to 167th Street west to Harlem Avenue then north to 159th Street.
159th Street will be reopened. Cicero Avenue will be reduced to two lanes from 161st street to 157th Street.
Completion of the project.

The Oak Forest Senior Commission is looking for senior citizens who might like to serve as members of this commission, which meets in City Hall on every second Wednesday of the month at 1:00 PM. The Senior Commission gets involved in various community events, such as the annual Health Fair at the Oak Forest Park District and monthly senior lunches at the Oak Forest Community Center.
