Watching the video of your police shooting here from South Africa, what is wrong with these american cops? Does human rights mean nothing to you? Does life mean nothing to you? Is your life the only t...hing important to you? Maybe if your cops werent so fat they wont have to shoot everyone and maybe do this thing fit people do called 'run' and catch suspected criminals? You were the best country in the world and you are ruining it! Come on, I believe in your country, just learn what human rights are and have some respect for the citizens that pay your bloody paychecks! None of you cops deserve to be called heroes! Our cops here in South Africa work in a country which is actually dangerous and they are guaranteed to be in more shootouts in their careers than most of your soldiers, yet they somehow shoot less innocent civilians than you? I hope your citizens take a stand against you trigger happy authoritarian 'police'! Respect each other!! See More

Please put a traffic light at the intersection of Highway 51 & Highway 169, at the ole McKenzie Mart. So many accident, too many accidents, too many fatalities there. I know this will not stop acciden...ts from happening, however it would probably be alot less and maybe not near as bad. Heck, put your lil cameras up to catch folks running the red light, make some money off of em. But please put a traffic light at that intersection. Please take this into consideration and thank y'all for all that y'all do! Blessed be and be blessed, forever was and will be, you and me! See More

This police station & it's officers shot an Air Force Veteran, Michael Davidson, in cold blood. The officers were cleared by the federal court. Even though the video clearly shows no weapon! He gets o...ut the car with his hands stretched out and gets shot trying to show you his wallet. I have no faith in the justice system! (Video in HD on my timeline) See More

Opelika is a robust, historic community offering the perfect blend of small-town feel and big-city amenities. From unique shops and eateries tucked away throughout Opelika to nationally known, you’ll find an extraordinary selection of choices.

Cultural arts and special events are trademarks of our exciting community. Year-round entertainment is plentiful including the Opelika Arts Association’s Performing Arts Series, the Azalea and Dogwood Trail, Summer Swing Concert Series, Fourth of July Celebration, Christmas Parade held in the streets of downtown Opelika, and one of the most popular events during the Christmas season is the Victorian Front Porch Tour.

Recreational activities abound in Opelikaand the surrounding areas. World-class golf along the renowned Robert Trent Jones Trail is just one of the reasons Golf Digest named us the #1 Golf City inAmerica. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate that Opelika was named by ESPN Magazine as “Pigskin Heaven,” noting that there are five major NCAA Division I football schools within easy driving distance.

Although best known for friendly people, a quaint downtown and beautiful scenery, Opelika is on the move and boasts a vibrant economy. Forbes magazine ranked the area as the sixth fastest-growing small metro area in the nation. Opelika is home to a prestigious regional medical center and is highly committed to its public school system with innovative classroom technology.

Whether you are fortunate to be relocating here or if you are simply visiting - welcome to Opelika!

A special thank you to Officers Foster and D. Priest, for their help on September 3, 2015. My tire blew out near mile marker 58, on my way to Tuskegee VA for a doctors appointment. I called Alabama St...ate Patrol and they put me in contact with the Opelika PD. When the officers got to my location, I was asked if I had called anyone to change the tire. I explained that my sisters insurance companys roadside assistance had us on hold for 20 minutes. They asked if I had a spare and proceeded to change the tire for me. Again, thank you Officers Foster and D. Priest!!! See More

I visited Opelika for their Memorial Day ceremony from Atlanta, Georgia and I enjoyed the presentation the city put together to remember the men and women of the US Armed Forces on this day. I enjoyed... the speakers who addressed the audience and the citizens of Opelika gave me great hospitality during my visit to the ceremony. See More

I think the City of Opelika is in the best of hands. They have a finger on the pulse of their citizens as well as the the long term vision for the City.

Moved to Opelika in November 2013 from Columbus, GA. We moved due to unaffordable housing in Columbus for a family of six. We found a wonderful home in a quiet established neighborhood in which we lov...e.

Opelika maintains that small town feel with all the big city amenities. We're finally getting a Dunkin Donuts, too! And don't get me started on Opelika's fiber internet! The fiber internet sealed the deal when we were contemplating our move here. Our quality of life has improved so dramatically that I wish we could've moved here years ago.

Whenever I'm asked by friends and coworkers how I like it in Opelika, it's the same answer each time. "I love it, wish I moved there long ago!"

If there's one complaint I have about Opelika, well, I only have one. It's the high trash collection fees that will keep going up year after year.

Police officers shooting someone who was lending a hand at first sight.. Gives you a new perspective of how so called "Police" acts huh? The shooter probably watches too many action shows, also I'm su...rprised he wasn't punished or jailed. Normally when someone shoots someone else, they get jail time, but this guy does not. Guess people of the law get to get away with everything eh? And it doesn't matter if it was 2 or 20 years ago, That man is still alive somewhere and probably still holding a firearm. Do something about it.
I'm just some kid who really thinks everyone should be treated on equal grounds.

Only go if you want to possibly be shot for holding your wallet.... and the judges to say its ok for the police to shoot first and ask questions later.

what a piece of crap the so called cop and police chief of your fair city must be! Cowardly men and bullies with badges so wanting just to shoot somebody. Both need to be arrested and convicted for at...tempted murder. Release the video. Where is the mayor and city council? I hope I never have to drive thru your area as I would not have a wallet in my hand for your gestapo thugs. Not even a word of sympathy or apology and the big delay in notifying the family....real crime fighters. See More

Shooting active duty military and showing id is not respect for the military. Having blood come out of the body and not doing anything including telling the wounded not to move is beyond stupid and fu...ll of ignorance. This behavior is clearly pathetic. See More

Shooting active duty personnel who were helping someone on the side of the road. It would be highly advised to avoid this town at all costs.

Mayor Fuller Participates in Dr. Seuss Week Mayor Fuller had an exciting start to his day. He, along with several of our police officers and Sportsplex volunteers, visited Southview Primary to read to students of all ages. This week was Dr. Seuss' Read Across America. All across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participated in this fun-filled event which brings together kids, teens, local citizens and books. Mayor Fuller read Oh The Places You'll Go to a group of very inquisitive first graders. A big thank you to the Southview teachers and librarian for the wonderful breakfast and for hosting this event. We enjoyed being a part of it!
