Local Poet and Playwright Kevin Latimer penned this little prose poem/flash fiction piece, titled "crumbs." He's extremely talented, and has a unique ability to digest intense experiences and use them as a basis to make great art. This piece is no exception.

"I was adopted; unwanted at birth. My (mother) once told me that protective services found me one day when I was two years old. I weighed 20 pounds, a bag of cheese curls laid at my feet, the women who gave birth to me, nowhere to be found."

Case Western Reserve University Philosophy Professor Jeremy Bendik-Keymer was kind enough to share an excerpt from his forthcoming book, "The Wind ~ An Unruly Living" (Punctum Books) with us, and we are delighted to be able to publish it. It's deep, insightful, and a joy to read.

"You see, the thing that will blow open the shutters and the doors of self-ownership is relationship. That is why it comes with the wind."

What You Are Getting Wrong About Appalachia "is a very practical form of deconstruction that pokes holes in the operative myths and narratives that define Appalachia and determine how those in power make decisions concerning it. The book has the power to make these conventional narratives less dangerous, and can potentially lead to the promotion of narratives that are less homogenous. This book is an act of resistance, both as a work of deconstruction and positive assertion of different narratives that gets no coverage."

William H. Lennon reviews "What You Are Getting Wrong About Appalachia" by Elizabeth Catte, published by Belt Publishing & Belt Magazine.
