UPDATE: Draylen Mason auditioned for Oberlin Conservatory! Had he lived, he would have found out yesterday, Friday, March 23rd., that he was accepted into Oberl...in. Which is an absolutely wonderful school. I did my undergraduate studies there and loved it very much!

I’d like to dedicate my recent recording session to Mr. Mason. Here is the link:

Draylen Mason (17 year old, American bassist) died as a victim in one of Austin, Texas package bombings on Monday, March 12th. He was a gifted bassist and a student of William Bill Dick. This is an absolutely tragic and senseless murder of a brilliant young man, possibly because of his race. My sincere sympathies to his family and friends.

Mr. Mason was a talented young bassist who performed with Austin Soundwaves, Austin Youth Orchestra, the UT String Project and at Interlochen. He was recently admitted to the University of North Texas music school to study bass performance. He performed alongside Oscar Meza, assistant principal bassist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, during a side-by-side trip that Austin Soundwaves did with El Sistema USA.

Details about the bombings are in the links below:
