Article by João Camargo, the Climate, in the Public. | The resignation of the last two oil contracts in Portugal marks the end of one of the most successful social struggles in Portugal in decades. The end of the attempt to exploit oil and gas in Portugal is a defeat of the current and previous government. It is also a defeat of the largest political parties that in Parliament have repeatedly made the continuation of the suicide pulsion of fossil capitalism. After several years of struggle, our promise was fulfilled: Not A Scoop. Australis Oil & Gas contracts remained in force, despite the fact that legal deadlines were already in place, and the government facilitated, in this way as in other agreements, the extension of time limits for the start of activity. Organized collapse of the oil industry is an imperative need for humanity to stop the worst-case scenarios of climate change. The Covid19 crisis has put this industry in direct dependence on the states and the powerlessness (or dependence) of the system's politicians on large companies ensures that even when people need to be saved, taxes continue to subsidize, against our will, the proceeds of this business. The Portuguese government subsidizes fossils at EUR 867 million per year, while selling a climate plan and a Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality that are not enough to comply with even the 2º of the Paris Agreement. ANNOUNCEMENT: End of Australis gas agreements is a huge victory for the climate justice movement After years of struggle, all 15 fossil energy resource exploitation agreements were buried against the will of the government and parliamentary majorities, with the end of the two concessions for gas exploration in Bajouca and Aljubarrota - ′′ Pombal ′′ and ′′ Battle ". A year after the first climate action camp in Bajouca, Camp in Gas, which featured an odd mobilization by the local population and collective people by Climate Justice, Australis Oil & Gas gave up the two concessions for gas exploration. Opinion - John Kings (Economic Diary) https://jornaleconomico.sapo.pt/noticias/taxas-de-destaxas-da-aviacao-630736 An investigation by Investigate Europe - a multinational team of European journalists - has highlighted the massive role states have in shaping fossil fuel-based economies. At least EUR 137 billion is channelled by 30 European states - UE27 plus Norway, Switzerland and the UK - into the fossil sector. One of the forms of subsidisation is the almost nullity of taxes paid for air transport, and last year's report from the European Commission - ' Taxes in the Field of Aviation and their impact ' - brings light on the subject, so much on the Union's view European, as in the Portuguese case. Let's start with the tariff tax, i.e. a flat rate applied to each ticket. In the Portuguese case, this tax is null and, although not the only country where it happens, we can find several examples where it does not represent insignificant values. COMUNICADO: Anticorpos vão implementar de novo a República

Mais de 150 subscritoras e subscritores já assinaram o manifesto Nós Somos os Anticorpos, lançado pelo Climáximo, colectivo pela Justiça Climática, propondo uma acção de desobediência civil em massa. A iniciativa tem data marcada, 5 de Outubro, em Lisboa, e prevê replicar o evento que este dia assinala – a implantação da República. Tomando a origem da palavra República, “coisa pública”, vai ser lançada uma ação de des...obediência civil em massa para lutar por isso mesmo.

O Grande Confinamento veio juntar uma nova Crise Económica à Crise Climática. Enquanto milhares são atirados para o desemprego e escassez, não existe qualquer resolução à vista para a destruição do único planeta que temos. Está tudo lixado. Cada vez mais nos aproximamos do momento em que todas as crises, impulsionadas pela crise climática, se tornarão irreversíveis. Face a este cenário, fartámo-nos!

Dada a inacção das entidades governamentais de tratar da “coisa pública”, resta-nos sair à rua numa ação de desobediência civil em massa.

A cura para esta amálgama de crises passa por cuidarmo-nos mutuamente e valorizarmos o que é essencial nas nossas vidas. Nós sabemos que precisamos de estruturas sociais que permitam e facilitem uma verdadeira relação ecológica entre todos os seres, para substituir as estruturas tóxicas que nos levam a um colapso civilizacional. Saímos para combater o vírus, não só os sintomas.

Para isto precisamos de um Serviço Nacional de Saúde forte, para proteger-nos das doenças e das pandemias, um sistema equitativo de Segurança Social para apoiar todas as pessoas em necessidade, uma habitação digna, a garantia de energias renováveis e transportes públicos gratuitos, um plano massivo de emprego público para tirar centenas de milhares de pessoas do desemprego e da precariedade e ao mesmo tempo garantir uma transição justa com empregos socialmente úteis, e muito mais.

Esta ação estará alinhada com a iniciativa de Outono a nível europeu, o Climate Care Uprising, após a greve climática internacional do movimento Fridays for Future do dia 25 de Setembro. A onda de ações do Climate Care Uprising será focada na cura das nossas ecologias, sociedades, corpos, serviços públicos e economia, usando para tal acção directa, baseada nas realidades locais de maneira a travar políticas e empresas de destruição massiva.

Assim, saíremos em ação no dia 5 de Outubro em Lisboa em nome da Res Publica, a “coisa pública”, para descontaminar a economia e regenerar as nossas sociedades, com uma ação pacífica e disruptiva contra os mecanismos tóxicos do sistema socio-económico em que vivemos.

This action will be aligned with the European-level Autumn initiative, Climate Care Uprising, following the international climate strike of the Fridays for Future movement on September 25 Climate Care Uprising's stock wave will focus on healing our ecologies, societies, bodies, public services and economics, using for such direct action, based on local realities in order to halt massive destructive policies and businesses. Thus, we will be in action on October 5 in Lisbon on behalf of Res Publica, the ′′ public thing ", to decontaminate the economy and regenerate our societies, with peaceful and disruptive action against the toxic mechanisms of the socio system - economic in which we live.
