Rohith, We wrote to each other when you were alive. And before you died you wrote a letter that packed in so much that it will take me a lifetime to keep writing back to you.

Colour of Trans 2.0 is an evocative performance by trans activists Living Smile Vidya, Angel Glady and Gee Imaan Semmalar. It traces the experiences of the actors themselves through seven episodes and addresses particularity of trans experiences in India, livelihood, trans health care (or lack of it), acceptance from natal families, love, sexual violence, public violence, caste patriarchy and how it affects our lives and how we resist.

The performances mix the forms of cabar...et, monologues, clown theatre, commedia del arte, pathos, realism , film and theatre of the absurd. Colour of Trans 2.0 is for anyone interested in questions of self representation, trans activism, caste and new interventions in theatre.

Deliberate Resistance: LGBT Prisoner Rights 20 Years After Farmer v. Brennan
Friday, November 14th
Jerome Greene Hall
Columbia Law School
435 W. 116th St. ...
Free and open to all.

Registration now open at deliberateresistance.eventbrite.com.

In 1994, the US Supreme Court upheld the right of prisoners to hold prison officials accountable for "deliberate indifference" to their safety. The case was brought by Dee Farmer, a transgender prisoner who experienced assault and abuse because of her gender identity. We commemorate Dee Farmer and all incarcerated persons who are resisting abusive and discriminatory practices in detention.
Deliberate Resistance will bring together advocates, grassroots activists, practitioners, criminal justice officials, lawyers, and scholars to discuss the legal legacy of Dee Farmer’s case, the movement to end sexual abuse in detention, housing and segregation, and health care for LGBT incarcerated persons.

Cosponsored by ACLU, Just Detention International, and the National Center for Transgender Equality.

What: Join us for the 2014 SGAC Annual Conference to learn about current challenges to HIV treatment access, to build advocacy skills, and to bond with fellow student activists from around the country. We will create a strategy for the spring semester to hold leaders accountable in the fight to expand access to treatment and support those living with HIV and to ensure more robust infrastructure and health systems in expanding health equity worldwide. We will have the opportunity to hear from seasoned activists and those intimately involved in the world of global AIDS policy to build our skills as activists and gain knowledge about the systems in which we are working. We will also have the opportunity to strengthen our national network by learning from fellow students and working together to build a joint strategy going forward.

If you need travel assistance, please reach out to mythili@studentglobalaidscampaign.org

At my university here in Germany (Humboldt University Berlin) queer people also recently started to organize (and are now officially part of the student government as so called "Referat"), but face a lot of resistance by the university leaders, who deny them rooms for events, give them restrictions for what they can do, etc. This applies to organized workshops, but even social mixers face resistance, and is part...ially based in homo- and transphobia.

The queer interest group wrote an open letter (unfortunately only in German) and asks for support.

I translate the appeal for the open letter (the open letter itself is much longer):
"Only since July exists the "Referat" for LGBTI people - the first time ever at Humboldt University. Already, after having had our first events, acts a part of the university government against us. Their argumentation is based from our perspective in a homo- and transphobic attitude. Due to this we ask all supporters to sign our open letter. It has been presented today for the first time in the university senate and will be send sometime next week as letter. Please contact us at lgbti@refrat.hu-berlin.de for your support and forward this open letter to friends, comrades, faculty and sisters.
The most recent version of the open letter can be found here: http://lgbti.blogsport.de/images/OffenerBrief.pdf"

Knowing that the fight for LGBTIQAGNC justice is transnational, I hoped that you'd maybe be willing to sign the open letter/declare solidarity and show some transatlantic solidarity for your queer siblings in Berlin. Of course forwarding it to other queer collectives is encouraged.
