A reminder that Council’s kerbside collection is happening next week in Burbank, Mackenzie and Rochedale.
I rarely post about Federal Politics, but I am thankful to see that Peter Dutton is looking at ways to help persecuted South African farmers.
We have many former South Africans in our local area and they are fantastic citizens who love Australia and make a great contribution to our community.
It has been reported today that the iconic ‘Australia’ sign from Brisbane’s Expo ‘88 is up for sale. Cr Murphy and I reckon this iconic sign is something worth saving. Do you agree? Should Council buy the sign for $5,000? Tell us your thoughts.
*UPDATE*: We’ve had confirmation that an anonymous buyer has purchased the signs and offered them to an historical society to ensure they are saved. The signs will be restored and put on public display.

Did you know Rochedale is home to one of Australia’s largest collections of native ferns and rare plants? It’s located at 447 Miles Platting Road and there’s going to be an open garden early next month.
Earthworks for Rochedale’s long-awaited Town Centre shopping and community precinct are progressing well.
This Coles project will include a major investment in public infrastructure, including intersection upgrades, construction of new roads, the provision of a new park and the refurbishment of the old St Philips Church for use as a Council-owned community hall.
Once completed, local residents will be able to do their shopping within the suburb, instead of being forced to drive elsewhere.
The old Salvin Park Nursing Home is finally coming down!
I’m pleased to report that full-scale demolition of the derelict buildings has started today.
The works will continue for another few weeks, with removal and recycling of material happening progressively to each building.
Yesterday’s #busjam - Another day, another bus jam at the Cultural Centre Busway Station, clogging-up Victoria Bridge.
After years of State Government inaction, we can’t wait any longer. Only Council & Team Quirk has a plan to deal with this massive bottleneck at Brisbane’s busiest transport hub: Brisbane Metro.
