In Chicago we braved temperatures down to -17 degrees Celsius, but in the next two weeks we're probably playing our coldest Aussie shows ever:
Thursday in Hobart, Saturday in Katoomba, and next week in Canberra.
Which will be coldest?
A prize for whoever predicts the location and temperature closest in a comment below!
Pretty excited about some upcoming travel plans.... we can't say anything yet, but it involves apples. and cheese. Can't wait to tell you...
For a man about to lose his beard, Gordon looks surprisingly happy....stills from the shoot for our Game of Thrones cover, watch the vid here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuRBC6IfOP0

Happy/tired tCFB after the 16 hour shoot-day for our Moving Pieces of the Sea album cover last year.
Nice to see a brand new venue open tonight in our 'hood - Newtown Social Club - and even nicer that our mates The WooHoo Revue get to be the first band on stage!
From the vaults: Mark, Jess and Gordon checking out The Vee on tour in Ireland.
Crooked tip: if you want a scenic drive, do as we did and look for the wiggliest road on the map.
Jess takes the whole 'chainsaw folk' thing literally....

Thanks to everyone who came to our shows and made this our best Folkie ever!

We were fueled by audience enthusiasm, the brisk weather and the stockman's camp - roast lamb on the spit, potatoes, corn and delicious damper - yum!

In 2012 we wrote the score to Bridget Le May's short film Sunday (you can see our name in the small print here!) and the film's star Lalya Rai just won an award for her acting at the NYC Picture Start Awards. Nice one!
Congrats to Best Actress at NYCPSFF 2014: Layla Rai (Sunday)

The Crooked Fiddle Band has a show on 2014-06-19 at 21:00 @ Dark Mofo Winter... in Hobart, TAS http://www.reverbnation.com/p/qWYMEQ
Who do you reckon would be the ultimate next tcfb producer/engineer?
We're interested in someone who can handle the heavy/intense sides and the folky/acoustic sides with both energy and grace.
Dream list?
Billy Gould from Koolarrow/Faith No More
Stakula from Alamaailman Vasarat
Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth.
John Congleton
I'm sure there's more, but that might get some ideas flowing....

We fiddle and Facebook, but we also tweet: @crookedfiddle if you're a fan of 140 character convos!
Working on remixes and getting to hear our individual tracks again makes me want to give another shout-out to Mr Steve Albini and his Electrical Audio studios. He captured our music and our instruments with such clarity, guts and warmth and it's the closest we've got to the energy of a live show on record.

If you haven't heard our album LOUD or through chunky headphones, give it a go - Albini's mix really pops like that.

...but he could finishing our longest track, The Deepwater Drownings, at a pinch...
For years, Gordon and I have been telling everyone who'll listen that they need to see Jonathan Boulet's live show, in part because it is just so enjoyably noisy and heavy.
When we saw his farewell show he said 'I'm going to move to Berlin... and write a punk album.' True to his word, Hold it Down is the best kind of mess, distorted and melodic. More like QOTSA than his Arcade Fire-esque roots.
Maybe this is the album that shows off what everyone who's seen JB live knows: it's energetic, intense and catchy all at the same time.
That's why we like it, that's why it's punk, and that's why you should just listen to it already.
