It was a bit damper out there this week, but still some good racing to be had by the looks of things Great to see lots of smiles all round, and some awesome efforts from the younger members of the field! See you all next week in fancy dress for the last race for 2018.
Congrats to everyone who braved the rain last night for the second race of the 2018 Caltex Westport Marr's Beach Tri Series! Thankfully the deluge was short lived and the racing wasn't affected, but it did mean a slightly smaller field - to be expected!!
Here's the results for you. Luke - I didn't end up with a finish time for you I'm afraid, so if you know what it was let me know and I'll correct it for the record. Apologies!
Next week is the last race of the series, whic...h has traditionally been a chance to get dressed up and have a good laugh at each other. That will continue this year, so get thinking about what you'll be wearing next week.
Once again, I'll get some pics to you all once I get them from Richard
Glenn and Richard!
Only 13 spots left for this year's event - don't be the ones to miss out!
If you're keen to see yourself hanging from this rock in a few weeks time then we suggest you get your entry in asap. We have been blown away by the steady flo...w of entries from all over the South Island this year, and now only have 13 spaces left before we sell out. We would usually get double that number in the last week, so if you want to make sure your name is on the start list don't hang about - click that "Book Now" button at the top of our FB page before someone else does!
Thanks so much to all those who have entered already. To be honest I wasn't sure whether I was going to be able to run this year's event, but the response has convinced me that the work has been worth it!
See you all soon for the adventure of a lifetime
Glenn and the Cape Fear team.
Evening all. The BCC has one of our biggest events of the year coming up with cape fear cranking into life on the 24th of March. At this stage 75% of the field is from out of town, which is awesome to see! However, we still need a few more marshals out on the course to keep these kids safe. If you’ve got some spare hours that day from 10am onwards we’d love to hear from you. Please just comment on this and we will confirm with you if we need you!
Glenn and Paul C
For those that like their results in a more traditional format, here's the times from the first Caltex Westport Marr's Beach Tri for you Hopefully we will see many of you back next week, with a few extras in tow
What an awesome night for racing this evening!!! Thanks to everyone who made the effort to get out there for some fun in the sun It seems that Glenn's new timing system did as he hoped it would, so if you want to know how you got on at the Caltex Westport Marr's Beach Tri tonight head to
Use the dropdown boxes at the top of the page to select your event (tri or bi) and category....
We'll be posting some pics from our man behind the lens (Richard Rossiter) in the near future, so keep an eye out here for them.
Big thanks to Richard Nichol for keeping the event alive this year, and to the BCC team for taking it on. Also a huge thanks to Allan at Caltex Westport for supporting the series once again.
If you enjoyed yourself out there tonight, bring along some friends next week to join in the fun!
This is happening tomorrow everyone! The forecast is looking good for race 1, the BCC crew have been tidying up the course (thanks Alby!) and our new race organiser Richard Nichol has done a sterling job of making this happen at short notice. So... lets reward their hard work by giving them a good turnout tomorrow! Entries close at 3pm at PERC, so make sure you get in before then.
See you at Marr's!!!
For those that think there is some sense in making towns good places to ride bikes, here's something that might be of interest to you! Rod Tolley is heading to the Coast in a few weeks to share his thoughts on how to make this place a better one for walking and biking, based on his many years of experience and thinking around these things. It's completely free to join in the discussion, and it would be great to see a good turnout from those of us that like riding bikes around the place. Please share in whatever public places you have access to to spread the word! See you there Glenn.
It's back, and just in the nick of time! Thanks to Caltex Westport and Richard Nichol, the Caltex Westport Marr's Beach Tri series is returning for another yea...r. We know it's late notice, but we've only just managed to find a way to make this work, so please spread the word far and wide to make sure this years' series is as good as the previous ones have been.
Register at PERC before 3pm on the day of the races, then head out to Marr's Beach for a swim, bike, run that's doable for everyone.
See you there!
It's back! The Buller Cycling Club have taken on this great little family event, and are looking forward to some great racing with all the keen bikers, runners and swimmers of Westport. Essentially the format is the same as previous years though - enter at PERC, turn up on the day and have some fun! Minimum age is 10, and there is no maximum. We look forward to seeing you there!
As many of you will be aware there is a storm heading our way. It's quite likely that the tracks between Westport and the beach will be impacted again, and DOC are going to be closing the area at Kawatiri Beach Reserve, so please stay away from these areas over the next few days.
Paul and Jeff (along with a few other helpers) have done an awesome job fixing up the damage from a few weeks ago (see before and after pics attached!), but I suspect there will be more work to be done after this next storm. If you're able to assist with putting things back together again over the next week or so we'd love to hear from you.
In the meantime, we hope you all survive the next few days unscathed and we'll be in touch again in a couple of days.
Afternoon everyone! I've just discovered that this page wasn't accessible to the masses, so I'd like to encourage you to have a look at the last two posts, and share them on to those you know.
The first is regarding the Caltex Westport Cape Fear youth adventure race that we run - something for the kids, and we'd love to have a big turnout this year so please share it with anyone you know who has kids that love a challenge.
The second relates to a volunteer opportunity on t...he Paparoa Track next weekend. If you're keen to be involved please let us know.
I hope you're managing to get some riding in over the summer. It would be fair to say that I've been doing more swimming than biking, but I can't complain about that!!
It's a little less than two months until the next edition of the Caltex Westport Cape Fear Adventure Race kicks into life, so make sure you get your entries in for this very unique sporting event. Just head to the "Tickets Available" section on the event page for online entries.
Cape Fear is a very real challenge for those brave enough to take it on. It's not intended to be easy, but it is intended to give kids a chance to see what they are capable of. If you've got any 10-18 year olds in your lives that need a taste of adventure then this is an event just for them
This is another little BCC event, so it would be great to see some BCC support for it! If you're keen to help marshal on the day then comment below to let us know you're keen.
As many of you will be aware we have another epic backcountry ride being developed in our backyard at the moment - the Paparoa Track behind Punakaiki. DoC are ...leading the charge on this project, but have a group of American Firefighters coming to do some volunteer work in the near future. Their involvement has opened the door for some local volunteers to get involved, so if you want to put some love into this track they are looking for two people to help out on the 10th and 24th of February. They will cover fuel costs and provide food.
This is from Mark Nelson (the project manager) - "If club members attending have their own tools then they should bring them. Grubbers and shovels are good and small hand saws etc if they have them. Planting and remediation are also a big part of this work so a good eye for detail is well appreciated."
If you want to help out please comment on this post, let me know dates would work for you and what tools you can bring. We do have a few club tools around so if you don't have any of your own I'm sure we can supply some.
DoC have been great supporters of our work over the years, so it would be good to be able to help them out with this one!
P.S. This is a shot from the new Moonlight Hut site - not a bad place to be able to ride a bike too
