Buller Cycling Club to Caltex Westport Marr's Beach Tri Series

It's back, and just in the nick of time! Thanks to Caltex Westport and Richard Nichol, the Caltex Westport Marr's Beach Tri series is returning for another yea...r. We know it's late notice, but we've only just managed to find a way to make this work, so please spread the word far and wide to make sure this years' series is as good as the previous ones have been.

Register at PERC before 3pm on the day of the races, then head out to Marr's Beach for a swim, bike, run that's doable for everyone.

See you there!

It's back! The Buller Cycling Club have taken on this great little family event, and are looking forward to some great racing with all the keen bikers, runners and swimmers of Westport. Essentially the format is the same as previous years though - enter at PERC, turn up on the day and have some fun! Minimum age is 10, and there is no maximum. We look forward to seeing you there!

As many of you will be aware there is a storm heading our way. It's quite likely that the tracks between Westport and the beach will be impacted again, and DOC are going to be closing the area at Kawatiri Beach Reserve, so please stay away from these areas over the next few days.

Paul and Jeff (along with a few other helpers) have done an awesome job fixing up the damage from a few weeks ago (see before and after pics attached!), but I suspect there will be more work to be done after this next storm. If you're able to assist with putting things back together again over the next week or so we'd love to hear from you.

In the meantime, we hope you all survive the next few days unscathed and we'll be in touch again in a couple of days.

Afternoon everyone! I've just discovered that this page wasn't accessible to the masses, so I'd like to encourage you to have a look at the last two posts, and share them on to those you know.

The first is regarding the Caltex Westport Cape Fear youth adventure race that we run - something for the kids, and we'd love to have a big turnout this year so please share it with anyone you know who has kids that love a challenge.

The second relates to a volunteer opportunity on t...he Paparoa Track next weekend. If you're keen to be involved please let us know.

I hope you're managing to get some riding in over the summer. It would be fair to say that I've been doing more swimming than biking, but I can't complain about that!!

Cheers,
Glenn.

It's a little less than two months until the next edition of the Caltex Westport Cape Fear Adventure Race kicks into life, so make sure you get your entries in for this very unique sporting event. Just head to the "Tickets Available" section on the event page for online entries.

Cape Fear is a very real challenge for those brave enough to take it on. It's not intended to be easy, but it is intended to give kids a chance to see what they are capable of. If you've got any 10-18 year olds in your lives that need a taste of adventure then this is an event just for them

This is another little BCC event, so it would be great to see some BCC support for it! If you're keen to help marshal on the day then comment below to let us know you're keen.

As many of you will be aware we have another epic backcountry ride being developed in our backyard at the moment - the Paparoa Track behind Punakaiki. DoC are ...leading the charge on this project, but have a group of American Firefighters coming to do some volunteer work in the near future. Their involvement has opened the door for some local volunteers to get involved, so if you want to put some love into this track they are looking for two people to help out on the 10th and 24th of February. They will cover fuel costs and provide food.

This is from Mark Nelson (the project manager) - "If club members attending have their own tools then they should bring them. Grubbers and shovels are good and small hand saws etc if they have them. Planting and remediation are also a big part of this work so a good eye for detail is well appreciated."

If you want to help out please comment on this post, let me know dates would work for you and what tools you can bring. We do have a few club tools around so if you don't have any of your own I'm sure we can supply some.

DoC have been great supporters of our work over the years, so it would be good to be able to help them out with this one!

Thanks heaps,
Glenn.

P.S. This is a shot from the new Moonlight Hut site - not a bad place to be able to ride a bike too

And so the 2017 season has come to an end in some of the wettest conditions we've had so far! Thanks to Tom, Craig, Rhys and Claire for coming out for a ride with me.

It would be fair to say this season has been a tough one for the club for all sorts of reasons, but I'd like to say a huge thanks to Mike K for filling the gaps when I've been away, and making sure things kept ticking along. Also a HUGE thanks to Claire for your services once again - we really appreciate the ...time and energy you give us!

There is an awards evening programmed for Thursday night, but given the low numbers we've seen lately, and the fact that I'm leaving town tomorrow morning for Christmas, we will delay this event for sometime in January and combine it with some robust discussion about how we tackle the 2018 season.

Thanks to all those that I've raced with over the season. It has been a pleasure indeed

Have a great Christmas everyone and enjoy some peaceful riding wherever you may be.

Glenn

Yes it is raining but it’s also warm and not windy, so a great night for the last race of the season! See you all at the HQ at 5:30 for one last spin of the wheels before we move on to the festivities of the next few weeks

Apologies all for the slow response in getting these times up from last week's TT. It was a small turnout this time around, but some good times were posted. Thanks heaps to Ben for timekeeping this one

Morning everyone! I hope you've been making the most of the glorious riding weather we've had over the last few weeks. Tonight's the night for our last time trial out to Holcim, so come and give it your all to see if you've got any faster as the season has gone on! Ben M has put his hand up for timing tonight - thanks Ben I'm heading to the end of your celebration for the William Pike Challenge Award this evening, so will see you all next week. Cheers g

The time has finally come to test our legs out on the full distance of Denniston this evening. It looks like it should be a glorious evening for riding - perhaps a tad windy, but that should keep us cool while we climb. We'll be meeting for this one at Waimangroa for a 5:45pm briefing, so if you want to ride with others head to the Adventure HQ for a 5:10 departure. It should be a tail wind out there, so a good chance to warm up the legs Albie - you are timing tonight. Was that a sneaky move to get out of riding???

Sorry about the delay in getting the TT results out - has been a busy weekend of 7 makeoover planning. On that note, if anyone has anything from 1 hour to an entire week to lend a hand to this, head down to the clocktower to find out what's going on and sign up for action. There's some cool things in the pipeline, including a bit of boardwalk (a nod to our efforts at the lagoon, which is very nice to see!). It would be great to see a few BCC faces getting involved...

Anywa...y - here's the results...
