Our law enforcement officers are a precious few, thousands in every city, who protect millions. This has to end. Many of you have asked me how you can help. I will be contributing to ATO, the Assist the Officers Foundation founded by Dallas Police Officers.

My statement on the shootings in Dallas:

Lt. Governor Patrick Responds to Dallas Shootings

AUSTIN - Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dallas Police Department, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and Dallas first responders. Several officers have been killed and many have been injured. During times like this all Texans must stand united as this investigation continues and those responsible are stopped, apprehended and brought to justice.

...

Please pray for the families of the officers killed and wounded in the line of duty in this horrific attack. Pray for the men and women in law enforcement across Texas and across our nation. They put their lives on the line every day for us. This is not just a Dallas tragedy, but also a Texas and an America tragedy.

Stopping so-called "sanctuary cities" will be a top priority for me in the 2017 Legislative Session.

The Republican-controlled Senate failed Wednesday to advance efforts to change federal immigration law -- including one to cut funding to so-called sanctuary cities.

How do you feel?

It is disgraceful that the FBI says they won't prosecute Hillary while explaining that she broke the rules hundreds of times. She has always believed she was above the law and now, apparently, the FBI agrees with her.

FBI Director James Comey announced Tuesday that despite evidence Hillary Clinton was “extremely careless” in her handling of classified emails on a private server, the Department of Justice would not recommend charges being brought against the former secretary of state.

Together with Governor Greg Abbott and Texas House Speaker Joe Straus, I have sent a letter to every Texas state agency directing them to reduce most of their budget funding requests by four percent for the 2018-2019 biennial budget. We believe this is critical to continue to rein in government spending.

This kind of spending restraint, along with the strong, pro-growth policies that have made the Texas economy one of the strongest in the world, is essential to assure that our state and our people succeed economically. This process will assure that every state agency will review their spending – just as every Texas family does – to determine the best value of every dollar that is spent. “It is imperative that every state agency engage in a thorough review of each program and budget strategy."

The US Supreme Court has ruled against Texas House Bill 2, but the fight for life and women's safety continues in Texas.

I discuss the U.S. Supreme Court's disappointing HB 2 decision on The Stinchfield Report.

Yesterday's opinion from the Texas Attorney General affirms that the Fort Worth ISD Superintendent overstepped his authority by unilaterally imposing outrageous bathroom guidelines. I am calling upon the Superintendent to either revoke his illegal policies or resign immediately. Read my full statement and the Attorney General's full opinion below.

I pray that God gives peace and comfort to the victims and those affected in today's terror attack in Istanbul. So tragic.

Today's U.S. Supreme Court ruling on HB 2 is a devastating blow to women's health and safety. As a co-writer of HB 2, I am disappointed with the decision, but rest assured that the Texas Senate will continue to work to protect women's health in the next legislative session.

HB 2 was passed during the 83rd Texas legislative session to ensure the health and safety of women.

I'm calling on President Obama to strengthen background checks on Syrian and Iraqi refugees. The safety of Texans is my first priority, and it would be a mistake to proceed with the current resettlement policy without verifying that no individuals pose a security threat.
